No precept or claim is more suspect or more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

Et tu, Gunnar? I have never quite understood people wishing others a Happy Memorial Day.

Got to attend a gender reveal party for a granddaughter, had a nice barbecue with my family, and visited gravesites.

It was a nice day reflecting on family members that served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. Thanks for the service.
Myth is misused by the powerful to subjugate the masses all too often.

Hmph. Now that you mention it, it is a bit like saying, "Enjoy your dad's funeral!"

Maybe the greeting should be "Have a solemn Memorial Day."
Religion is for people whose existential fear is greater than their common sense.

The god idea is popular with desperate people.

Yep.

People in this country seem to blend Memorial Day with Independence Day and Veteran's Day. They aren't all the same. Probably 80% of the population doesn't even know that Armed Forces Day exists. The remaining 20% are probably active duty military and their dependents.
