There's something I don't understand about Reagan. He lived through the Great Depression did he not? Why didn't conserving resources and minimizing waste resonate with him on account of that?

Former President Jimmy Carter has been hospitalized for a procedure to reduce pressure on his brain.
Carter, 95, was admitted to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta on Monday, with an operation scheduled for Tuesday morning, according to a statement from The Carter Center.
The statement said the pressure on his brain has been caused by bleeding “due to his recent falls”.
“President Carter is resting comfortably, and his wife, Rosalynn, is with him,” the statement concluded.

The belief was that environmental concerns were an exaggeration or fabrication meant to control economic activity via another means. Taking solar panels down was just a symbolic strike against this. People should be free to pursue wealth - a higher standard of living - without liberals trying to keep them down by creating false environmental alarms.
We like to think of history being an arc of progress, but this worldview has gotten a lot worse sense then. It's metastasized. I have a hard time imagining international action spearheaded by the Reagan/Bush administrations on CFC's happening in today's environment.

The people that peddle this nonsense are the same people that insisted that smoking never hurt anyone. The same people that killed the electric car back in the day.
As soon as you concern yourself with the 'good' and 'bad' of your fellows, you create an opening in your heart for maliciousness to enter. Testing, competing with, and criticizing others weaken and defeat you. - O'Sensei
