Last night at the GOP convention

Ivanka Trump proudly proclaimed "Washington didn't change Donald Trump. Donald Trump changed Washington." The fact that Washington did not change Donald Trump is probably the single greatest tragedy of the Trump administration. In a country torn apart by racial strife, 4% of the world's population and 20% of a pandemic's fatalities, Donald Trump has not changed. He has learned nothing.

To me, the heart of Trump's message last night came in one of his unscripted asides. As the first President to ever turn the White House into the backdrop for a nomination acceptance speech, he turned and pointed to his residence.

What's the name of that building?, he asked. The fact is that we're here, and they're not. Making America Great Again. Nyah, nyah.

In his 1968 GOP acceptance speech, Richard Nixon promised to "Bring us together". But you can't bring us together if half of the country is the demonized "other".

The Democrats are in charge of most of these cities and have been for nearly a 70 years. Most also have Democrat governors. Trump offered federal help from the National Guard. The liberal governors and mayors refused.

He shouldn't have to. Due process shouldn't be controversial either. You can't just send a lynch mob out to arrest policeman based on a snippet of footage. You have to do an investigation first.
