I think the stupidest and most depressing thing about the whole fiasco is the high probability that Trump understands full well how extremely racist and intolerant he appeared in that interview. It was deliberate on his part because he is convinced that that is precisely what appeals most to his sycophant base. There is a depressingly high percentage of his most dedicated followers who are unabashedly racist and intolerant and like him precisely because they are convinced that Trump is just like them in that regard. Conan O'Brien once joked that Abraham Lincoln was not really assassinated. He had a foreboding vision of what his Republican party would be like 150 years in the future which depressed him enough to commit suicide.

He absolutely deserves it but I doubt we'll ever see it. I'd be satisfied if he were confined to Mar a Lago without the ability to call out unless audio and video recorded, and with no use of the internet to communicate with the outside world. Same as prison. Confiscating his passport and an ankle monitor wouldn't hurt anything.

The only thing Trump did for me was to get me interested in politics and some days I wish that never happened.
