Wow. Have you seen the documentary? One of the best. So good. So damn good.

I haven't. Music documentaries are an area where I have so much watching to do. Memory is always untrustworthy, but I think I've only ever watched two music documentaries.

ETA: Oh, I forgot that I saw Piece by Piece with my son in the theater. Very unconventional documentary, but still one I've watched.

My favorite album, since it came out in 2006, is The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me. If you don’t like 2000s hardcore / emo don’t even bother but if that appeals to you at all, it’s legendary for good reason.

I don't know that I've really ever listened to that genre. I think the only thing "emo" I've listened to a lot would be the Jimmy Eat World album "Bleed America," which I think falls into Emo Pop (so definitely not Hardcore Emo).


That Jimmy Eat World album though is another one that I can listen to from start to finish.

It’s funny you say that, because somewhere around the halfway point between jimmy eat world and deftones is a pretty good description of the album’s vibe. You might very well enjoy it.

If you want to go out on a limb Tuba Skinny has several albums, and I'd hope a library might have one of them. Of course, you can always listen on YouTube, but there aren't any great recordings. They have a masterful version of "What's the matter with the mill?" The band members fluctuate; my favorite tend to have Shaye (the band leader) alternating cornet solos with Craig on clarinet (see Jubilee Stomp with trombone also). That guy might teach Bennie Goodman a thing or two. Absolutely insane. Must of us grew up listening to straight rock, wasting years of our lives with fast guitar solos that might be impressive but don't go anywhere, or worse, go to the wah pedal, which Kirk Hammett does on every song. FFTS. Imagine virtuosic band playing with actual counterpoint and polyphony across several instruments. Once you listen for a while and get used to music that's not backed by thumping bass, hearing all the different voices come together gets addicting. You'll hear something that's not achievable by playing one or two guitars through overdriven vacuum tubes.

Please don't. My son and I usually make it through 3-5 albums from the library a week (I always like to try to listen to an album 2-3 times if I've never heard it before, just to make sure I give it a chance to marinate and set in), so I'm constantly running out of albums to add to the list.

"Best of the Guess Who" is in my opinion on of the greatest, "Best of" Albums ever, how these guys are not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, makes the hall of fame a joke, again in my opinion. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Best_of_The_Guess_Who

There is a great story of how the Guess Who got started. The were a Canadian group and Randy Bachman (BTO) and Burton Cummings along with Bachman's brother started the band, I think in HS. Neil Young lived in the same town and was also getting started , and there was some sort of talent contest on a local radio station and Neil Young ended up winning, because his mother keep calling in and voting with different voices. I may have butchered that a bit, it has been years since I read that, but it is close.

I've read they are not in the Hall of Fame because of this song, which is dumb if that is true.
