I've been binging a lot of YouTube watching videos on how the US's reputation has taken a thrashing in the last 10 years, but especially in the last year. We are despised and mocked around the world. The Germans are running a musical mocking Trump. Canadian tourism to the US is down 30%, costing the US economy an estimated 4.5 billion in 2025. Thousands of airline flight routes to the states have been cancelled, only to be rerouted to different nations.

I was saying to my wife last night how the rest of the world currently views the US (the Danes think we're idiots; that was a fun video... oh, and Switzerland! of all countries has spoken out against the US. Trump actually made Switzerland take a side... against us), and that I imagine at least half of Americans have no idea that's the case right now, and if they did, wouldn't truly understand the ramifications of that fact. They actually seem to think staunch nationalism and having no international friends helps them.

I was worried that this was going to be a long, protracted war that would destabilize the entire region, causing gas prices to skyrocket and inflicting long-term damage on America's global credibility. Interestingly, internationally now, many commentators are now saying that no one believes what Trump says since it's all lies, so the way to grasp him is take the opposite of what he says as real, and that turns out to reflect about 90% truth! I'm starting to get the feeling that I might be the only sane person left on the planet and everyone else is smoking dope. Which is really disturbing when you consider the fact that while I strongly suspect that I'm sane I probably wouldn't swear to it under oath.

The worst case scenario is that we get an Iranian regime as bad as the Ayatollahs in 5 years.

Almost 2,500 American soldiers dead, between $2-3 TRILLION dollars spent, for Afghanistan to go from being led by the Taliban to being led by the Taliban.

In all of the regime changes the US has tried to militarily force, there have been three that were successful, and two of those were backed by massive multi-national cooperatives.

Given who the Ayatollahs were and their feelings toward America, that's going to be very unlikely to happen.

The US killed a bunch of children, and has been killing civilians. Do you really think that's endearing us to the Iranian people, and the ideology behind the regional "Revolution" of Iran is going to be dissipated by American imperialism and acting as the world's police? Especially given the current administrations near complete abandonment of our extremely effective soft power missions and the doctrine of enlightened self-interest?

We might get lucky and put some puppets in that will act right for a while. We might even get lucky, and just hand over Trump's Saudi daddies a massive win that they are able to successfully coral and exploit. Or, we might end up just like we did with Trump's Syrian double-cross where other nations dog-walked him as retribution because he's an irredeemable moron, and saddle us with an inflationary bomb that will last well into the next administration.

This is, of course, all assuming that Iran doesn't still have the tenacity that they had during the Iran-Iraq war.

ETA: As an aside, we had two ISIS sympathizers attempt to kill/disfigure a bunch of people this past week. I wouldn't be surprised if we see an uptick in radicalization -- the federal brain-drain of Truplicans is likely going to make it much more difficult to identify early and stop.
