China takes Taiwan..
then what do we suppose is the consequence here in the USA?
semiconductors, etc.
Let us avoid, for now, the obvious shift in US military training settings being akin to more SE Asia like environments, etc.(Mattis may be gone but his philosophy for China being our biggest threat never left).
But, from a trade and supply perspective (think also how silk road goes through Italy ports and the highly contested S China sea).
Curious how some think this will play out.

Re: China takes Taiwan..
TAIPEI, Taiwan — Thousands of people marched in Taipei's streets on Sunday demanding the reversal of a decision to allow U.S. pork imports into Taiwan, alleging food safety issues.
President Tsai Ing-wen's administration lifted a long-standing ban on U.S. pork and beef imports in August, in a move seen as one of the first steps toward possibly negotiating a bilateral trade agreement with the U.S. The ban is due to be lifted in January.
That decision has met with fierce opposition, both by the opposition Kuomintang party and individual citizens. The new policy allows imports of pork with acceptable residues of ractopamine, a drug added to animal feed that promotes the growth of lean meat that some farmers use in pigs.
The drug is banned by the European Union, but is legal in the United States.

Suppose Trump continues as president. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that he's won the election as you believe he has and will continue to function as president through 2024, and then into a third term afterwards. At a certain point, whatever is going on with China, he may grow tired of it, and decide it's time to declare victory (as he declared victory over Covid-19 and victory in the election). And you'll back him 100%. The greater and more obvious his lies, the greater your personal support will be, if for no other reason than to get under the skin of cry-baby liberals.
His lies really are are good for one thing: they're his unique brand of advertising and therefore, the right's best hope for staying in power. It's all for the short term, of course. China won't be a threat to the US during his lifetime or the lifetimes of the aging filth who call themselves Republican senators, and so it won't matter what happens thirty years down the road. As long as he and his buddies have their senior moment, the poor and uneducated whites and Latinos have their tough guy hero and conspiracy theories, and the opportunists have their low taxes, it's all good.
There is absolutely no reason to discuss China, subs, because at any time, Trump can just call the matter settled and be done with it, and you'll get behind it.

It appears you are not that informed on China. But thanks for the cursory ramble.Gadianton wrote: ↑Wed Nov 25, 2020 1:33 amSuppose Trump continues as president. There is no law that states that we must tell the truth about China.

I apologize if this seems off topic to this thread, but, is this true? Does subgenius still actually believe Trump will somehow prevail and remain President after January 20th despite the now authenticated results of the recent election and the devastating and humiliating defeats of all his ridiculous lawsuits aimed at overturning it? Incredible!
No precept or claim is more suspect or more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

Why so incredulous? Trump supporters are delusional. This is evidentiarily factual.Gunnar wrote: ↑Wed Nov 25, 2020 4:47 amI apologize if this seems off topic to this thread, but, is this true? Apparently, the attachment to chronic assholery is strong enough for many people to admire Trump, an obvious piece of crap. This is part of the human condition as we know it in 2020, which is why my cynicism toward humanity is at an all-time high.

Re: China takes Taiwan..
Suppose mainland China moves on Taiwan, how would that affect trade and the economy here in the US?
Ummm, step back to the part where China feels so emboldened as to actually do this and reframe the world at the moment. I don't think the trade aspects matter in isolation as Taiwan trades heavily with both the US and China, and China trades heavily with both of us as well. It's unlikely that China actually invading Taiwan would be a long term trade issue. It would, however, mean China decided it could flex without fear of US reprisal.
I don't know that the world as we live in it currently gives adequate guideposts to all of the global dynamics that would lead to and follow such an event.
So, why bring it up?

How about it, subs, do you still really think Trump will prevail and remain President another 4 years? Or is it that you think he somehow prevails whether or not he remains President?

I doubt Trump would do anything. I do worry just a little they could try and take advantage of a leaderless US, but atm I don't think China's capability is quite there yet.honorentheos wrote: ↑Wed Nov 25, 2020 6:05 amIt would, however, mean China decided it could flex without fear of US reprisal.
