Looks like it's "A Gray State"

Tomatometer: 100% critic rating.

ETA:
Is this what you are talking about?
yes, that's it.
That was a great documentary. I felt for his wife and little girl. I felt for his father and brother and friends. The guy seemed to have a genius for film-making but his demons got to him.
Myth is misused by the powerful to subjugate the masses all too often.

I agree that there is harm in conspiracy theories. But David Berkowitz (Son of Sam) got his messages from a dog. Charlie Manson thought the Beatles Helter Skelter was a call start a race war. Paranoid minds are receptive to paranoid fantasies - whatever is out there. I think if this man had lived in another time in history he would been susceptible to The Protocols of Zion. I think mentally unstable people are susceptible to whatever paranoid flotsam and jetsam is out there.
The great problem of any civilization is how to rejuvenate itself without rebarbarization.

I wouldn’t argue that conspiracy theories are a necessary condition for people to be persuaded to commit violent acts. But we can’t run the counterfactual on this guy. We don’t have any evidence that this guy would have killed his kids anyway. Or gone spear fishing in a synagogue. But even if he would have come to believe in an anti-Jew company theory and, as a result committed violence, that’s just another example of the harm inherent in conspiracy thinking.
he/him
we all just have to live through it,
holding each other’s hands.
