I loved British comedy before I left but now that I know more of the local lingo it's much, much funnier.

Have you watched the british version of 'the office'? I think it's 10 times funnier than the US version. But hey, I lived in the UK for 8 years, so I 'get it'.

I showed an episode (I have both seasons on DVD) to a homegrown/never been out of the country american, and he just didn't get it at all, and thought it was horrible.

Yeah, British version is much more funny.

Things I disliked about Britain:

Soap Operas during primetime (Is Coronation Street STILL there?)
Water falling from sky too much
Connected Housing

Things I miss:

The crazy street preacher who would scream at us endlessly about being spawn of devil. (My favorite was when he challenged us to a duel in the name of the Holy Spirit in a crowded town center)
Kebab shops, especially the guy who made us free ones because we'd share with him our best polygamy jokes.
Chippies
Reliable public transportation (well, more reliable than in the States)
Yorkshire Puddings

Neighbours is still popular. (When I was at college it was a daily routine for half the trainee teachers to meet in the common room to watch!!!)

If anyone is interested I just found some more Catherine Tate 'Lauren' sketches on You Tube.
I think they are hillarious!!!....and not too far from the truth!!

The French Oral, and the Periodic Table are highly recommended and worth a gander!!!

I don't know if it translates well to American Culture??!!

I was literally on the floor with the 'translator' sketch....

Were you in 'Allo Allo'? Say 'Good Mooning'.

I couldn't stop laughing.

I miss Chocolate flavored Wheetos.

I miss Kia Ora dilute drink.

I agree with missing the Kabob shops. I'm drooling just thinking about the delicious pink sause. mmmmm.

Chippys were so good. You could always pick out the missionaries who enjoyed them too much because they had salt and vinegar burns around their mouths.

Neighbors was a great show. We would catch it from time to time while visiting people in their homes. Everyone watched it.

Funny memory, the Tenants Lager girls on the side of the cans. Some guys collected them.

great comedies were: Red Dwarf, Black Adder, Mr. Bean

My kids and I all watch the new Dr. Who series. They are anxiously awaiting the new season. Anyone know when its supposed to start?

This was alright, but I'm more partial to Monty Python and Benny Hill which come on BBC every now and again(stupid I know, but fun).

I also think the Brits have some good insults like wanker and git.

Bond!!! The other day I had to ever so carefully explain to my 8 year old son what 'whanker' meant. Even my mother doesn't know what 'sod' and 'bugger' mean....(until recently)

I was also in the midst of explaining (in the car while driving) what putting up two fingers at someone meant, (has to do with the British medieval reaction to the French Archers...which was something along the lines of ...see...we still have our two fingers..we can shoot at you with our bow and arrow).......when apparantly a kindly man in his garden started putting his fist up at me (according to the kids in the car) because he thought I was being rude to him. The kids thought it was the funniest thing..

Bond!! I can't believe you like Benny Hill.....He got taken off the air for being offensive to women in general, and I don't think he ever got over it, died a sad man. (My dad, for some entirely unknown reason that totally escapes me, absolutely loved The Benny Hill show) Monty Python of course is totally classic!!

You said you were going to post your American list!!! (still waiting.........!!!)

Nehor, glad you liked Lauren. Gaz did you check out the link for David Tennant? He does a sketch with Lauren also..

We are all enjoying the new series of Dr Who. The new assistant is great, and I don't miss Billy Piper at all. There are some fantastic story lines.... The Daleks return in New York, and there's this really poignant one about people who get in traffic jams on motorways for 10 years +!!

I love the use of sod and bugger....and also the ability to put "bloody" in front of anything. My use of "Bloody 'ell" is well known to me mates. I also use it when describing other British things that tick me off (such as)...."Bloody Liverpool, losing to those Fulham wankers!" (Alright I've been hanging out in those British soccer chatrooms too long).

Yeah...that's a cool story about Agincourt, where the ability to "pluck" a bow got changed to "f-ck" and there we have our modern insult. Way to flip the bird at some stranger....LOL

I can't help it...I like those Yakkity Sax chase scenes and some of his songs (and that little bald guy), although admittingly his show was pretty sexist....(although I use the persona of James Bond)....personally I can't believe that show was allowed to stay on the air so long, considering the (in some cases) blatant female nudity, not to mention the innuendo and sexual content of the show, the slapstick was what I liked, the girl stuff only was funny when they played it into something completely unexpected, like a person being disinterested because they're gay or something.

Monty Python...of course classic...."and now for something completely different" I still use this as a segway!!

You said you were going to post your American list!!! (still waiting.........!!!)

Sorry.....I'll do it this weekend.

Edit: Here's my USA lists:

Places to see:

Yellowstone National Park
Yosemite National Park
The Rocky Mountains (any part, particularly the Colorado Rockies and the mountains of the Pacific Northwest and California
The Great Plains (worth the drive the 1st time, after that, fly!!)
Mammoth Cave
The Grand Canyon
The Florida Keys
San Diego (great climate, great Zoo, Tijuana)
Niagara Falls
The shoreline in New England
many many more....

TV:

The Wire
Lost
Jericho (a decent show with a cool premise)
Big Love
not really much else, unless you like reality shows....I'd rather watch reruns of Seinfeld, Mash, ER (liked the early years), Frasier, Cheers, other decent shows from years past

Music:

Many and numerous

Food:

Southern cooking (I have two grandmothers who single handedly keep me above 200 lbs)
Good BBQ
regional favorites whereever you go (Seafood on the coasts, Steaks in the West, Mexican food on the Mexican Border, etc)

Theatre

Broadway shows (I've seen Tommy, Grease, and Footloose)
Regional plays are often good too (I saw Hound of the Baskervilles done in a little theatre here and it was very well acted)

to be continued if I think of anything else worth mentioning.....

Things I like about the US...

Music:

Rock. We invented Rock'n rapin' Roll, people.

Blues. Yup, we invented that too.

Food:

So me another country where I can get a decient Cheeseburger and I might consider purchasing a summer home there.

Deep Fried Everything. Something I love about the American South (And something I hate come morning PT), we're the kings of fried foods.

Barbeeque. All you foriegn types don't know how to grill worth a damn. Come on down to Texas sometime and I'll show y'all how it's done.

Drinking:

Sam Adams' fine line of beers... 'Nuff said.

Maker's Mark Bourbon Whisky.

Gentleman Jack.

Places to see:

We've got every single kind of climate known to man in our country. You like mountains? We got ranges them. You like deserts? We got those too. We've even got rainforrests.

Cool Things We've Made:

Aircraft. We invented powered flight. We still make the best high-performance aircraft out there. We are the bleeding friggin' edge of aerospace technology.

Space Flight. We've been to the friggin' moon. Go take a trip to the Cape for a shuttle launch, or go to the Huntsville Space and Rocket Center. Sure, those wacky commies put a man (and a woman) in space first, but when we got up off our ass we made Earth orbit our bitch.

Cars. 1969 Camaro SS, 400ci smallblock, putting down 589hp into the pavement at the rear wheel. Got one sitting in the garage. We also made the Corvette, a car the still has a faster lap time on the Nurburing track than any of those horrifically expensive pasta-rockets. We do more with eight cylinders than the Intalians or the Germans can do with 12.

Guns. We make the best automatic handgun in the world, the M1911 .45ACP. We make the best long-range target interdiction rifles in the world, the Barrett M107, the McMillian Tac-50, and the EDM Arms Windrunner (available in .300winmag, .338 Lapua Mag, .408 CheyTac, and .50BMG). We make the fastest firing weapons in the world, like the GAU-8 Avenger 30mm cannon, the M61A1/2 Vulcan 20mm, the GAU-12 Devestator 25mm, and the M134 7.62mm "minigun". We make the biggest (current service), the longest ranged, and the most accurate artillery systems too.

The XBox 360. Best serious game consol there is. The PS3's paper specs are better, but the 360 actually delivers on screen performance.

Computers. We invented modern computing.

Yeah... my country friggin' rocks.
On Mathematics: I divided by zero! Oh SHI....
