Most of my relatives strongly dislike Adam. (but they did agree with me that Tracks of my Tears was good)

I've never seen an episode of American Idol. If I was ever to watch one, it would be during the auditions where Simon supposedly rips people to shreds verbally.

Isn't that show rigged? People supposedly call in and vote for their favorites, but aren't the producers simply putting up whatever "results" they want?

I was basing my thread on a contest from another forum, where you line up the top 10 and then get points for how closely your people go out (i.e. if you guess Anoop to get eliminated at position 9, and he goes out at 7, you get 2 points). Then the person with the fewest points wins.

But it's too time consuming for me to track it myself, so I thought it might just be simpler this way (and since there's nothing at stake...?)

It's not rigged. Since the show's goal is to get the highest ratings possible, it is in the producer's best interest to have the most popular people make it to the next week. Which is exactly what happens when they eliminate the least popular person, which they find out by counting the phone calls.

The tricky thing is not to get hung up on "talent" and performance quality. It's a popularity show, not a talent show. There are other factors that influence people to call in (charisma, beauty, and even a desire to skew the results)

Then, as fewer people are left, you have to figure out who is getting the "votes" of the people who were eliminated (i.e., now that Megan is gone, what other contestants are the Megan voters going to support?)

After watching Megan's annoying behavior and poor attitude last night, it was nice to see her go home. Not a classy girl. She didn't show any respect to the judges (who were spot on with their advice and critique) and didn't even seem serious about becoming an artist.


It's too bad she wasn't open to constructive feedback because I loved her unique sound. She reminds me of Adele.

I also think that the people most likely to vote are young females, which would skew it in favor of the male singers who would appeal to them.
