Isn't that show rigged? People supposedly call in and vote for their favorites, but aren't the producers simply putting up whatever "results" they want?
It's not rigged. Since the show's goal is to get the highest ratings possible, it is in the producer's best interest to have the most popular people make it to the next week. Which is exactly what happens when they eliminate the least popular person, which they find out by counting the phone calls.
The tricky thing is not to get hung up on "talent" and performance quality. It's a popularity show, not a talent show. There are other factors that influence people to call in (charisma, beauty, and even a
desire to skew the results)
Then, as fewer people are left, you have to figure out who is getting the "votes" of the people who were eliminated (i.e., now that Megan is gone, what other contestants are the Megan voters going to support?)
