He didn't lie because there will be no "taxpayer funded government option."

This is what he said about this straw man:

"They argue that these private companies can't fairly compete with the government. And they'd be right if taxpayers were subsidizing this public insurance option. But they won't be. I've insisted that like any private insurance company, the public insurance option would have to be self-sufficient and rely on the premiums it collects."

Come on BC, you're better than this.

I am even better yes. Your problem is that you see "taxpayer funded" in only one way, the simplest. That would certainly occur under the proposed co-op plan which for now seems to have been shelved.

But under the "Qualified Health Benefit Plan", payments to doctors and hospitals etc. are going to be kept to near Medicaid levels or between Medicaid and what private insurers have to pay. In other words, the payments are too low (a major factor in some doctors and hospitals not accepting Medicaid patients or going out of business because there are too many of those kinds of patients).

What that means is doctors and hospitals are going to shift costs onto private insurance companies. Medicaid already does that and is yet another reason why private insurer premiums are so high. Under the Obama plan, it will occur at an exponential rate. Guess who foots the bill? You got it, the taxpayer in the form of higher premiums. And thus this plan is taxpayer funded, just like Medicaid is.

And thus, as I mentioned before, as private insurers become less able to compete, there will be no other option but the public option and because that option underpays, it will be more difficult to find goods and services and quality will also go down. Simple economics really. Please research the economic effect of price controls if you really want to be conversant on this issue.

Bottom line: This proposal is nothing more than a proposal for universal healthcare via the backdoor. Obama and his supporters (and by extension liberals and democrats) are either really stupid, or really evil (because many of them know this is a backdoor option). I pick both. Obama certainly IS a liar. Joe Wilson was absolutely right.

Obama asserts that he will partially pay for his plan by cutting waste and fraud. If there is so much waste and fraud in the system today, let's see Obama cut it from the system for a couple of years and then we'll consider his plan.

At multiple places in the expenditures during the Bush II years there was enormous “waste and fraud.” Consider at least a trillion dollars wasted on the attack of Iraq as a result of the false claim that Iraq “has weapons of mass destruction.” How many Americans, British and other allies of the US have DIED as a result of that “waste and fraud.” Consider how many innocent Iraqis have died and sustained life-long disability as a result of that “waste and fraud.”

46,000,000 Americans have no health care presently. That costs this nation in a multitude of ways.

What are we basing our trust in the US governments ability to operate healthcare on? The IRS? The DMV? Medicare? our Welfare State?

A beurocrasy is incapable of handling something like this. All they will do is pump people full of pills. I saw iton my mission in the UK. Its a failed system. Their hospitals in major cities looked unchanged since WW2.

Not to mention it will bankrupt the country. Or maybe we can just borow more money from China, or print more Obama funny money and further devalue the Dollar.

JAK, You obviously don't know what you are talking about. The expedition was not a waste (though I would agree there was money wasted) and the claim (one of the least of the claims) was not false. You don't hear anyone complaining about the wasted dollars of our long term occupation, deployment, and involvement in Germany Japan, and Korea do you?

How many Americans, British and other allies of the US have DIED as a result of that “waste and fraud.” Consider how many innocent Iraqis have died and sustained life-long disability as a result of that “waste and fraud.”

I'd say the majority of those deaths can be placed squarely on the shoulders of left wingers like yourself who politicized the war thereby giving aid and comfort to the terrorsists whose strategy was to cause more death so they'd get YOU, their best allies, to spout more of the same.

A highly misleading figure. Most of those can either buy insurance if they want to or have access to medicaid but for whatever reason choose not to.
