Had it been a true political master stroke he would have waited until the summer of 2012 when the Republican candidate would have had to go on the record as a birther in order to get the nomination from the Republican base which is a majority birther or very nearly so. Then that record could be used to cement the Republican nominee as a far right politican driving the sane independents to the Democrats and creating a 1964 Goldwater type defeat.

Well yes, this is how left wing nutcases paint those in the mainstream who are concerned about following the constitution. But my original statement applies, Obama is fully and solely responsible for the controversy. It doesn't matter who the president is or what color is his skin though it is true that because he is such a terrible president it would be a good thing to invalidate everything he's done to this point.

The whole controversy was stupid. I'm ashamed that many on the Right perpetuated it for so long.

On the other hand, I think they would have been equally as obsessed if Obama had been fully white and his father from France or Italy and someone could convince groups of people that this Democrat was born there.

I do think it is an interesting study of the Scratchian methodology on a national scale. Like Scratch, they demanded proof. When proof was given they doubted the veracity of the proof and demanded more, all the time insisting that it would be so easy to disprove them if the evidence was there at all. Then, when proof is finally supplied that even Scratch couldn't reject, they, like Scratch, insist that withholding the proof was evidence of some kind of conspiracy or manipulation.

I wonder if, at some point, everyone will realize that they are criticizing the wrong people and arguing about the wrong issues. Until they do, there is no possibility of changing anything in a meaningful way... unless, of course, it makes someone a lot of money.
