We both wish that were true. Unlike you, I'm burdened with an inability to manufacture my own reality.

In all actuality, and given the distinct limitations Obama and his ideological cadres face in moving the nation toward the deeply collectivized socialist caregiver state he has long envisioned as the most desirable state of affairs for the American people at the present time, much of what he's actually been able to accomplish might better be understood as fascist in nature, rather than "socialist" in a more doctrinaire sense.

Most of the collectivization and state domination of economic life he's been able to achieve so far has been done in a de facto manner - through regulation, statute law, and naked political thuggery (the forcible cancelling of legal, binding contracts and the handing GM over to the federal government and the union, leaving the actual shareholders with a few crumbs, for example), and not through outright expropriation or nationalization.

His quest to utterly destroy an entire sector of the energy industry - coal - and his incremental expropriation of the means of production of another large sector of the American economy - health care - are other clear examples.

Amazing it is, to see the support in this forum for these kinds of policies and the overt hostility toward individual liberty (except regarding consequence-free sexual indulgence, psychoactive substance usage, and the killing of unborn inconveniences frequently arising as a consequence of a confluence of the first two), private property rights, and economic freedom.

But, after all, the life of the ant farm does have its attractions - for a certain kind of psychology.
