You should see it, Blixa. It's very well done. The acting is superb. Spielberg did Amistad and it was quite good (just my opinion). Lincoln is similar, only a bit better. I didn't see any 'sticky sentimentality' at all. I'm not sure where madeleine is coming from.

could not stand amistad. I really dislike spielberg pretty entirely. (jaws is the exception)

:)

I was trying to come up with just one scene as an example, but really, it's the whole script, from beginning to end.

I'm not saying that is bad. Just, not my thing.

I heart kitschy sci fi.

I've never seen it all the way through.

Me too! What's up with that? I have seen it on TV many times and could never sit still for it. I probably have only seen ten minutes of it after all this time.

I am gonna go see Lincoln.

You didn't think that bit at the beginning where those two white and one black soldier were gazing lovingly up at Lincoln and reciting the Gettysburg Address from memory counts? I did.

OK, maybe that was a little contrived. I don't think it detracted from the historical nature of the film in general. If the movie dealt exclusively with the political intrigue revolving around the 13th amendment we would have all been asleep by the end.

I liked it.
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.
