Two additions, on top of San Diego which is a great pick.

Tucson, AZ - Pro: some parts of Tucson are swimming with old mexican charm. I personally love the desert and Tucson has some of the most beautiful preserved swaths of it. It's in the 70's this time of year, but still a bit chilly at night. For an extended weekend, if staying at a ranch-style hascendia and exploring nature on nice day-hikes, capped with margaritas and good mexican food sounds fun, it might be worth checking out. Con: I wouldn't recommend it to everyone. If you're looking for programmed entertainment over exploration, not the place to go. And it has some very, very seedy areas that are easy to stumble into.

San Antonio, Texas - Requires pre-planning to miss a cold spell. The riverwalk is worth the trip by itself. Lots to do, one of the gems of the west in my opinion.

I live in Austin. The music and food scenes are good. Hill country has charm. Weather has been in the high 70s but we are expecting a cold snap. Might be hit or miss on weather for the next 6 or so weeks. We are also having a large carnaval brasileiro party this weekend

I still recommend Cancun. Roundtrip airfare to most places is going to run about $400. For another $300 or so you get hotel and food in Cancun. Plus it will be hot enough to swim.

70 degrees! It gets 45 around here and we're all peeling of the layers and exclaiming how nice it is to have some warm weather.

One new foot of snow and more on the way. 9 degrees when I left work today.

$700 round trip to Cancun from SLC. $500 for Austin. I'd go to Cozumel, and live with a mask and snorkel attached to my face.

Yeah SLC to Aus usually runs us around $300 a ticket. Few hundred more gets you all food you can eat, all the beverages or alcohol you can drink, 4 nights stay, and sun and sand in Cozumel or Cancun. Which is why I recommend it so often. It is cheap. You can find the non all inclusive joints for even cheaper, like $400 - $500 including air.

My manager just got back from a weekend honeymoon in Cancun. Said the weather was grand and the ocean warm.

:) I've been to the Yucatan coast several times. Cancun is my least favorite place, though, I would never say I don't like it. I'd go there again. And again.

Cozumel....I like a lot.

The water is warm, the sand is perfect, the snorkeling/diving is excellent. It is a island, so not much to do but sit around on the beach and/or live in the water.

From Cancun you can take short road trips south to Tulum and Play del Carmen. More to do and see if you stay in Cancun.

We stayed at a place in Merida once. It was outstanding, and beyond cheap. But that was back when the peso was 12000/1 against the dollar. Beautiful OLD city, that I would like to see again.

A good trip is from Merida to Cancun, pass through Pisté to see Chitzen Itza. English tours/guides are available.

I know, it's forever and a half away. But, yes they do speak lots of English there and have lots of English speaking tourists, if you have a fast jet......

I sit and think of how much fun travelling could be, but in reality I'm so tired when work is over that nothing is more fun than just not getting up the next morning and spending the day unapologetically sleeping in bed. If I get adventurous, I can always turn on the Travel channel. Then I think about the money I'm saving by not sitting cramped in a long plane ride and I'm even happier. So many people underestimate the value in 48 hours of pure laziness.

If you're doing it on a weekend though, make sure to hide your cars and make it look to Church as if you have left town. Lock the doors and beware of any home teachers.

I'm taking the kids to Cali in the summer. We'll visit my sissy and do Disney.

I am going to get a passport. Not sure how long the wait is, but at least I'll have it for the future.

I really want to go to Belize some day. But, for more than a long weekend.

Thailand looks gorg!
