my friend moved from the usa to the uk after we finished college and he eventually became a dual citizen there. he would always say that he liked it better there, because in the states the first question people ask about a person, or the first description made of someone, is their career. "you know, david, the doctor. he is married to martha, she is a lawyer. and they are in that really twisted relationship with that woman that manages video stores with VHS tapes and together they only kill school-crossing guards." he said that in the uk people would know what one was reading, where one last went on vacation, and where one's next vacation was going to be before finding out one's career choice. not sure if that was true, but it made him feel better about becoming a prisoner of mother england.

anyways. it seems that we are moving toward the UK introduction model. and soon, what drama series we watch will replace career on the introduction dropdown, scrolldown, wheel, or autofill menu.

Breaking Bad - Brilliant show. but relies a bit too much on extremely implausible BS. the drama is good. the over the top BS is not so good. plane blowing up because some junkie's dad was sad, and it spilled into some chef's backyard, and he then had a drink with the junkie's dad? and this is the season open and end? whatever man. i love that show. and if anyone here remembers moabite, you better watch every second of that show and take notes.

The Shield - i do not care if Obama watched the Wire, or even if he was a character on the streets of hampsterdam. The Wire cannot hold a candle to the shield. it is many many many years expired, but by far the best drama that ran 5 or more seasons. this one also had some implausible crap. but the characters didn't do implausible things because they were stupid, or not thinking, they just stumbled across a grenade or two that might not have really happened. forest whitaker, in the shield, will creep you right the “F” out. best drama made, by this many (look at my arms.)

Deadwood - a.k.a. the cocksuckers. NSFW. NSFC. bunch of the same people from the sons and all the other dramas. super good, but got cut short.

Game of Thrones - the third season is a bag of damned dicks. it sucks bad. two or three or however many weeks into it, and all it is is 120 seconds of these characters talking. then 200 seconds of another set of characters talking. and then back to these people talking and then those other people talking and, oh my god, those big icy guys cut up these horses and left them in the shape of a chrysanthemum in the snow. what will the bastard do? and more people talking and then we need to redo a bunch of crap to remind us about all the talking that happened in the last season. and then a chick talking about a dragon. too many characters talking about their characteristics. dumb dumb dumb.

The Smokers and the Drinkers - that was a great first two seasons. there were some good ones after that too. jury is still out on this one. i am really getting bored with this one though. don draper, talks in a low voice. only pours his glass up two fingers. hates himself, and cannot stop damned. there is nothing that will satisfy his self-loathing enough to satisfy his self-loathing enough. new wife, nah. partnership, nah. sabotaging the everloving “F” out of everything, not so much. cutting a partner down who hung hisself by a rope, nah. maybe he should have tried roger's acid. roger is the crap. i think i could get into draper's self loathing depressed alcoholic scorched-earth moments more if i didn't think that shwarmy campbell idiot was going to do something to make me want to make him live with his wife forever. Jesus Christ for the campbell parties where the dresses match the wallpaper and clash with the couch. overall, it is a good show, but we need more peggy and less campbell, and draper needs a season where he is closing a goddamn deal, not legs. or maybe he needs to close more legs. anyways, more deals from draper and less low voices for the chicks.

The Sons of Anarchy - once really good. and peg bundy's husband is brilliant in that show. damned brilliant. when he bit his tongue off, and spit it onto the window, ("that's commitment"), that was awesome. but holy damned crap has a show ever ever ever ever jumped so many sharks and had so many stupid people doing so many stupid things with so many stupid missed shots from automatic weapons? my brother says it best about this show, "it's the one i watch because of its grammy award winning acting."

"Rocks don't speak for themselves" is an unfortunate phrase to use in defense of a book produced by a rock actually 'speaking' for itself... (I have a Question, 5.15.15)

Walking Dead - the zombie part of the apocalypse is a brilliant borrowed reproduction by these writers. the show is about relationships and city/community building. the zombies have long long long lost their position in the show as the enemy or threat. it is a good show. i heard the tracy chapman character was a lot more interesting in the picturenovel comic books. i wish they would not have had andrea slow down and talk to that geek while waiting for him to die, go full-jesus, and then kill her. she was cool.
