Kerry doesn't have to answer the question. And he didn't. So the thread can continue. You'll notice that I laid off...he didn't want to answer.

It appears that the problem is a scapegoat has been invented for so many troubles of people, and science has become that scapegoat. This issue is vital to make sure we come down on the right side of the fence. Yes it's important to identify the problems we are having, it's also equally important finding out a real solution rather than just casting witless blame as if that will help anymore than sucking a thumb helps solve problems.

my favorite quote from the OP link:

Pinker wrote:Demonizers of scientism often confuse intelligibility with a sin called reductionism. But to explain a complex happening in terms of deeper principles is not to discard its richness.

Very nice catch Lemmie!

Why thank you, Philo!

by the way, in another thread, you mentioned expanding your learning and taking a skeptical approach as a way of "working through my own psychological devastation." That is such an accurate description of the steps necessary to shake off some deeply inculcated and just as deeply illogical thought processes that a BIC Mormon might grow up with. I can empathize, fully! Please continue. I am enjoying watching the method in your madness, as it were, and I am learning much in the process.

I'm still hoping he will talk on a podcast. Of course the DCPs, Droopys and MGs of the world will erupt in spectacular displays of butthurt which we would then savor along with their angry tears of helpless frustration.

Yes it is. Enjoy it. Better yet, savor it.

Note that my post is deceptively edited to make it appear as if MG is the target of this statement while he is only one very undistinguished member of many.

Does not really matter, it just caught my attention. I ran into a definition issue when reading further on this Steven Pinker article.

https://newrepublic.com/article/114754/ ... humanities

Humanism, in the realm of formal advanced education is in the realm of religion (verses science).

Humanism, in the realm of atheism is in the realm of science (verses religion).
