CNN already called it for Doug Jones. :-)

Jones won women voters 58-41. If the split is 50-50 Roy Moore wins in a walk. #metoo is a snowball rolling downhill, picking up size and momentum.

The sources I like to read that follow the goings on of the religious right have been on Roy Moore for years and years. I still don't think this election fully captured just how awful the man is or how bananas the worldview(s) of hardcore fundamentalist evangelicals is. There's just a cultural disconnect between that rather sizeable group and people who don't interact with them on a day-to-day level.

Anyway, religious right watchers gotta be getting black out drunk in celebration right now. Barely, just barely this some bar of decency that won't be crossed today. I mean, it took being outted as a sexual predator of teen girls and a scam artist, habitual disregard for the rule of law, a laundry list of horrifying quotes, contemptuous dishonesty and bigotry on the campaign trail, a strong opponent, and a national environment that is deeply unfavorable to his political party, but damn it there is a line there somewhere.

I was thinking the same thing.

Brietbart was covering the election earlier tonight like Moore had already won. I checked in just now to scope out the hilarity and the top article was "Republican saboteurs flip seat to Democrats."

Delicious.

It seems like the Republicans can learn one of two lessons tonight. If Breitbart is going to talk about 'saboteurs', then the alt-right wing of the party seems ready to go down in a blaze of ideological purity. I'm not sure how the rest of the party feels.

ButI take very little comfort from this election with respect to politics in Alabama. I just heard that Matt Drudge tweeted if Luther Strange had run he would have won in a landslide. I bet Big Luther would have won comfortably. So yes, this was a good night for Democrats. I actually think it is more significant for what it portends for Democrats outside of Alabama, rather than within. Because if a Republican President's coattails can't help a Republican candidate in the 5th Reddest State, that will give pause to Congressional candidates considering aligning publicly with the President in states that are a lot less Red than Alabama. I guess the question to be decided is: How long are Trump's Coattails if the candidate is not a child molester, but comes from a less Red state than Alabama?

Roy Moore has not yet conceded. If the margin is less than 0.5%, there is an automatic recount.
