Going back to the idea this represents an escalation by Putin, it's worth contextualizing how he views the west as a morally depraved influence. For example:

https://www.spectator.co.uk/2016/10/rev ... decadence/

Putin’s Russia is fast becoming a very puritan place. Ever since returning to the presidency in 2012, Putin has pursued an increasingly religious-conservative ideology both at home and abroad, defining Russia as a moral fortress against sexual licence and decadence, porn and gay rights.

Putin’s puritanism has grown hand-in-hand with the personal influence of two key conservative ideologues: his personal confessor Bishop Tikhon Shevkunov and the mystical geopolitical thinker Alexander Dugin. Bishop Tikhon is one of Russia’s highest-profile critics of the decadence of the modern western world — and his Every-day Saints and the Other Stories was the best–selling Russian book of 2012, rivalled for sales only by Fifty Shades of Grey. Dugin is the chief ideologue of Eurasianism, an ideology which holds that Russia has a special historical destiny to save the world from the corrupt moral values of western capitalism.

The idea the west is without a moral compass is as old as the revolution. But it makes for fertile soil in which Putin has been planting the recovered seeds of Russia's return to Soviet glory. The sentiments that feed Putin supporters and the religious right in the US are far more closely aligned than most Americans realize.

This shows how the word liberal has become a dirty word. If you were a conservative at the birth of the United States, you were a Tory, and wanted to remain part of Great Britain.

And no Mr. President, liberals on the West Coast are not what Putin is talking about when he talks about Liberal Western Democracy. Even a very stable genius should understand. You had it right during the forest fires: Liberals on the West Coast are bad because they do not sweep their forest floors, unlike conservatives in the south.

Keep in mind, the President thought the Constitution had 12 Articles.
"The great problem of any civilization is how to rejuvenate itself without rebarbarization."
- Will Durant
"We've kept more promises than we've even made"
- Donald Trump
"Of what meaning is the world without mind? The question cannot exist."

Subbies attempt to put KG in his place and defend Trump was the worst kind of own goal. Not only did he kick it back into his own net, he did it while showboating and mocking an opponent demonstrating the thing being mocked.

That was a bad choice of hill to die on even for subs, given the obvious idiocy of trying to defend Trump in this situation. It would not be possible for subs to even explain what he thought Trump was talking about without revealing that Trump had no idea what he was talking about.

Worse still is what's implied in that defense by subs, of Trump's apparent agreement with Putin: what is the preferential alternative that Trump would rather see replace western liberalism given his flippant dismissal of it to an avowed authoritarian leader of an enemy nation?

Subgenius knows that Trump flubbed this up. Subgenius has mentioned the concept of classical liberalism being different than the current political usage of the term on this very forum.

Wonder if Subgenius was experiencing a TTA (transient trumpathetic attack) and simply wandered into his denial?

I said Trump's comments were subgenius level stupidity.

Subgenius then drives home that very point.

Understanding the difference between modern liberalism and classical liberalism is something you'd expect from someone who consumes mostly right-wing media. Understanding the difference between Western liberalism and liberalism? Not necessarily.

Chap wrote:Omigod. It looks like he really does think Putin's reference to 'western liberalism' referred to the US west coast:

When asked by The New York Times about Russian president Vladimir Putin’s comments about Western liberalism being “obsolete,” Trump took that to mean literally liberals living on the west coast of the United States.

“He’s sees what’s going on, I guess, if you look at what’s happening in Los Angeles, where it’s so sad to look, and what’s happening in San Francisco and a couple of other cities, which are run by an extraordinary group of liberal people,” Trump told the Times.

“I don’t know what they’re thinking,” he added. “But when you look at Los Angeles, when you look at San Francisco, when you look at some of the other cities — and not a lot, not a lot — but you don’t want it to spread.”

This might be the funniet Trump gaffe ever, which is saying a lot. He's the Tom Brady of presidential gaffe-making.

From Kevin Kruse:

HARRIS: Busing was necessary to secure the full integration of public schools across America.

BIDEN: While I backed integration, busing struck me as an overreach.

Trump: The wheels on the bus go round and round. Many people are saying that. Round and round, round and round.

Trump just publicly proved he couldn’t pass a middle-school civics test

Your stupidity has already been incessantly proven , so why start another thread to prove it?

Your citation "literally" states that Trump "literally" translates western to exclusively mean west coast America.

Yet, after the liberal hair fire click bait headline, there is "literally" no evidence for your claim.

This quote seems to be what doltards like KG are holding up as convincing evidence for the OP claim.

“He’s sees what’s going on, I guess, if you look at what’s happening in Los Angeles, where it’s so sad to look, and what’s happening in San Francisco and a couple of other cities, which are run by an extraordinary group of liberal people,” Trump told the Times.

Yes, these 2 named cities and their failed liberal policies are horrible examples for an argument about "western liberalism". Clearly this means Trump thinks western liberalism is exclusive to the US west coast and the Western Hemisphere is too! No mention of Seattle, Portland, etc. Just 2 well known liberal cities in America...why he didn't add Topeka to that list escapes us, amiright?

good law your desperation smells bad.

Oh dear, you don't seem to know what the term means either. How embarrassing for you.

Exactly. We can read what he said. He clearly assumed Trump got the liberalism part right and was mocking KG and the article over assuming Trump was only speaking of Californians when he references western "liberals". Portland? What about Great Britain or Germany? Japan or South Korea?
