Jagger couldn't do this if his freaking life depended on it. Her voice just comes up from her toes like a geyser that doesn't quit until the last note.

Re: Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice
Yes, she is unquestionably one of the greatest, in large part because she was such a versatile, crossover soprano, equally at home in many genres. As I previously mentioned, I particularly admired her singing the role of Mabel, in The Pirates of Penzance. But my favorite female singer remains the Norwegian soprano, Sissel Kyrkjebø, and not just because she happens to be a Norwegian. Like Linda Ronstadt, Sissel is a universally renowned, crossover soprano, comfortable in many genres. You might even say she is the Norwegian Linda Ronstadt, or that Ronstadt is the American Sissel, which I would say is a high compliment to both of them!Jersey Girl wrote: ↑Wed Sep 15, 2021 11:20 pmIt's true isn't it? She had one of the most powerful voices I've ever heard in my entire life, if not the most powerful. She makes it look effortless.
But then, this is a thread about Linda Ronstadt, not about Sissel. I apologize if you consider this a derail of your thread. I meant no insult to Linda Ronstadt, whom I also admire greatly!Sissel is considered one of the world's top crossover sopranos. Her musical style ranges from pop recordings and folk songs, to classical vocals and operatic arias. She possesses a "crystalline" voice[1] and wide vocal range, sweeping down from mezzo-soprano notes, in arias such as Mon cœur s'ouvre à ta voix from Saint-Saëns's opera Samson et Dalila, to the F natural above soprano C.[2] She sings mainly in English and Norwegian, and has also sung songs in Swedish, Danish, Irish, Italian, French, Russian, Icelandic, Faroese, German, Neapolitan, Māori, Japanese and Latin.
She is well known for singing the Olympic Hymn (Hymne Olympique) at the opening and closing ceremonies of the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway; for duets with Plácido Domingo and Charles Aznavour at the “Christmas in Vienna” concert of 1994, José Carreras, Andrea Bocelli, Bryn Terfel, Josh Groban, Neil Sedaka, Mario Frangoulis, Russell Watson, Brian May, Tommy Körberg, Diana Krall, Warren G, Dee Dee Bridgewater and The Chieftains; and her participation on the Titanic film soundtrack.
Sissel received her first U.S. Grammy nominations on 6 December 2007 for a collaboration with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Spirit of the Season, a collection of songs from the choir's 2006 Christmas concert at Temple Square, was nominated for the Best Classical Crossover Album of the Year, as well as Best Engineered Classical Album.[3]
Sissel's combined solo record sales (not including soundtracks and other albums to which she contributed) amount to 10 million albums sold, most of them in Norway, a country with 5 million people. Her albums have also sold well in Sweden, Denmark and Japan. Together with Odd Nordstoga, they are the only Norwegian artists to have an album go 11 times platinum in album sales for Strålande jul" (Glorious Christmas).[4]
Her first name 'Sissel' is a Norwegian variant of 'Cecilia'.[5] This is a popular first name from Saint Cecilia, the patron saint of church music

I think there's more to learn about. I'll try to go looking tomorrow. I mean, today.

Re: Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice
I finally took the time to watch The Sound of My Voice from beginning to end, and I am more in love with Linda Ronstadt than I ever was before. The ending was bittersweet, but even at the end of the movie, she sounded pretty good, even though a far cry from when she was at her peak. Sissel Kjrkjebø is still my favorite singer, though. I can't help wondering if Sissel and Linda knew about each other, or if they ever met each other. I can't imagine that Linda would be unknown to Sissel, and I would be very surprised if Linda were not familiar with Sissel's accomplishments. I would bet that they were great admirers of each other, even if they never actually met each other in person.

I forget what LP this is on. I remember thinking that it sounded like a segue into the next song. All I knew was that it was beautiful but I had no idea about it's origins.
