Re: Ajax. You need to repent. - Russell M. Nelson
I just read President Nelson's statement on this. Admittedly I found it a little PC but I really don't disagree with anything he said. I still support the prophet and always will. The most important thing in this life is how we treat other people. And with the exception of when I talk to liberals, I've done pretty good at that. The second coming isn't far off. I'm not completely ready to stand before God but I'm not very concerned with how I've treated black people being much of an issue.
I'm making an effort not to discuss politics with liberals anymore. I doubt I'll be able to do it but that's the biggest thing I need to do in my life right now and for eternity. When the time for revolution comes I'm ready to fight and confident in laying out my reasons for doing so before God. Until then I need to try to keep my mouth shut. But yes I look forward to the world to come when I don't have to fight and take this kind of abuse from people. I long for the world where freedom comes for free and not through shedding blood once again.

You have to remember that racists almost never see themselves as racist, no matter how racist they are. People deep into racist ideological movements, like Ajax is, also tend to use a projection argument where they argue their critics are the "real racists."

The problem here is that you, Gunnar, being the kind of thinker you are, have a hard time not thinking about the issue rationally. ajax isn't bound by reason and facts like you are.Gunnar wrote: ↑Wed Jun 03, 2020 11:32 amAnother thing I'm pretty sure of is that he won't "cynically imagine the prophet is just paying lip service to the pressures coming from leftist elites to appease them but doesn't really mean it", as you suggested. If he thought that about the Prophet, that in itself would undermine his faith in the Prophet's divine authority, righteousness and credibility.
He just said the prophet was a little PC but ajax will still follow him. Rationalization comes easily to Mormons, otherwise they'd be ex-Mormons.

You are certainly right, EA. Ajax is a prime example of that, as are subgenius and ldsfaqs. That's what makes bigotry of all kinds so intractable and dangerous. Though Trump by almost any other measure is as ignorant and incompetent as he is dishonest, he has proved to be a genius at exploiting and amplifying the latent racism and bigotry that still exists in too many of us, and using it to create divisions between us to his own advantage.EAllusion wrote: ↑Wed Jun 03, 2020 1:35 pmYou have to remember that racists almost never see themselves as racist, no matter how racist they are. I hear what you're saying here, but it annoys the “F” out of me when people call Trump's idiot whispering "genius." It's like calling a bee a genius because it knows which flowers to visit rather than the bee just doing the only thing it knows how to do.Gunnar wrote: ↑Wed Jun 03, 2020 1:59 pmThough Trump by almost any other measure is as ignorant and incompetent as he is dishonest, he has proved to be a genius at exploiting and amplifying the latent racism and bigotry that still exists in too many of us, and using it to create divisions between us to his own advantage.

Yeah, he did say that didn't he? There goes my theory out the window -- part of it anyway. I was still right about him trying to rationalize away his racism and bigotry, but then, most of us already knew that anyway. Some Schmo wrote: ↑Wed Jun 03, 2020 1:40 pmThe problem here is that you, Gunnar, being the kind of thinker you are, have a hard time not thinking about the issue rationally. ajax isn't bound by reason and facts like you are.Gunnar wrote: ↑Wed Jun 03, 2020 11:32 amAnother thing I'm pretty sure of is that he won't "cynically imagine the prophet is just paying lip service to the pressures coming from leftist elites to appease them but doesn't really mean it", as you suggested. But you have to admit that the bee really is a genius at "doing the only thing it knows how to do." I am continually amazed at how well they do it!Some Schmo wrote: ↑Wed Jun 03, 2020 2:04 pmI hear what you're saying here, but it annoys the “F” out of me when people call Trump's idiot whispering "genius." It would be genius if they had other options, but chose that one. They don't have options; they have a biological imperative.
Saying Trump is a genius for the way he talks to his base implies that he's choosing his words carefully for a desired affect (as though his intellect is providing options).
That's not what's happening. He blathers in the only way he knows how, and it happens to appeal to morons. That's all there is to it.
