Both articles are way overblown. There some self-identified members of Antifa among the protesters who formed Chaz. There are also members of a couple anarchist groups, Marxists, Peaceniks, and any of the variety of leftist groups you will find mixed in with any big protest group. I linked to articles in the local press in the long thread about George Floyd.Jersey Girl wrote: ↑Fri Jun 12, 2020 5:53 amRI are you aware of any involvement in the autonomous zone by Antifa? I saw someone post about that on Facebook and when I searched it up for myself that's not at all what I read. Here's a couple of links about the reports in question regarding Antifa involvement. Tell me what you think about this, please? Is this ____ or not?

There are folks on the right who are trying to make Antifa some kind of scary bogeyman, just like caravans were a huge threat until right after the 2018 election. Several towns were punked by anti-Antifa propaganda into believing that busses full of Antifa that were going to take over their towns. A mixed-race family who went camping on the peninsula were harassed locals who were sure they were Antifa because they traveled in an old school bus. Locals actually felled trees to block the bus from leaving the campsite so the “Antifa” couldn’t escape. Yay for the assholes who are trying to whip up hysteria. Although several towns received warnings about the Antifa buses, it was all fake.
There is one guy, Andy Ngo, who is well known in these parts for flat out making things up to make Antifa sounds like ISIS. He already fooled Cam once.
In this neck of the woods, Antifa are the guys who rumble in Portland every couple of weeks with the Proud Boys. As I don’t run around wearing Nazi regalia, Antifa is about the last thing that would concern me walking around Seattle.
Various groups of protesters have marched to police precincts. The barricades at the East Precinct became a big deal because they were adjacent to a large Park that is a common starting or ending point for protest marches or rallies. The protests at the barricade were huge, and consisted of all kinds of folks from aged hippies to young folks. The protesters were as surprised as anyone to see the police withdraw. CHAZ was formed by the protesters happened to be there and those who showed up to celebrate their “victory.”
Frankly, Seattle has a history of land and building occupations, The awful results include creation of a black history museum, an art gallery, and a native cultural center. The police do want their precinct back, and I’m pretty confident they’ll get it. But a cooling off period for police and protesters is a good thing because we were coming very close to having dead people.
