But yeah, some guys seem to take pride in their ignorance, like getting an education will automatically make them snooty or something. It's fu-cking weird. It would be similar to taking pride in smelling like sh-it.
This perfectly describes the attitude of today's Republicans and conservatives--especially Trump's diehard base, and most certainly Trump himself!There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that "my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge."
I have known people who seem extremely offended by the mere suggestion or implication that someone else might know or understand something that they don't.
