We Democrats have perfected the arts of handwringing and the circular firing squad. It’s part of our charm.

I admit that it is too much for me.

They have been weak and ineffective for decades. Idiots.
As soon as the potential in courting big money was realized, it was essentially over. Clinton Democrats are, for all intents and purposes, Republicans with identity politics window dressing. Working Americans figured that out. Democrats never recovered. They court Jeff Bezos, and then he doesn't even have the nards to endorse Harris.
I think it probable that another important factor in Kamala's loss is that she and her campaign might have gone overboard with the negative ads. The Lincoln Project ads were particularly harsh, and tended to emphasize the stupidity, dishonesty and cluelessness of Trump and by implication the Republicans who voted for him. Taking offense at seeming to be characterized as stupid probably caused a lot of pushbacks among a significant number of these voters and only made some of them to double down on voting for him who otherwise might not have. Perhaps this is why 94% of Republican voters voted for Trump. Would fewer of them have voted for Trump again if they hadn't felt unfairly belittled or targeted by the virtual firehose of negative ads?
No precept or claim is more suspect or more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

The Elon Musk Factor

Post by Gunnar »

Kara Swisher issues warning about Elon Musk after Trump win

Among other things, Musk awarded more than a million dollars in a lottery to people who agreed to sign a petition supporting the 1st and 2nd amendments. Was this influence enough voters at the last hours of the election to put Trump over the top?

I disagree. Did you see any positive ads from Trump? People don't give a crap about negative ads being negative.

If you take offense to being called stupid, it's because deep down you believe it. Anyone who voted for Trump because they didn't like being called stupid (or for any other reason) proved they were stupid. You can't change that perception if you continue to do stupid things.

Trump voters will vote for him the rest of their lives, because they are stupid. There's no point avoiding it. You have to explain their vote somehow.

I don't question their stupidity, but there is such a thing as backfire effect in which people are more likely to double down on their incorrect beliefs when they are characterized as being stupid for believing them. Many would rather risk remaining being perceived as stupid than admit to being or having been stupid. I admit that this is further evidence of their stupidity, but some are more amenable to being persuaded out of their incorrect perceptions if we don't start out by calling them stupid. I have seen examples of MAGA supporters being persuaded to change their minds when approached as being potentially reasonable people.

ETA: No, I don't remember seeing and positive ads from Trump. Virtually everything he said was malicious lies. I wish I could understand why Republican negative ads seem so much more effective than Democrat negative ads. Why are Trump's lies so more often accepted hook, line and sinker, without evidence, while claims supported by impeccable evidence are so often rejected? It's almost like many have the attitude that providing factual evidence for one's claims only makes them more suspect, because they think that if it were really true, it would be self-evident without having to provide any evidence.

I don't question their stupidity,
Considering that you're talking about 72,978,296 American citizens, you probably should question it. Given this fairly large number of people, do you think there might be at least a few dozen people, out of the 93 million people, that aren't stupid?
