So you are endorsing the Freudian idea of anal expressiveness? That is an intriguing although messy idea.Jersey Girl wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 3:34 amYes.huckelberry wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 3:20 amHow about is there any reason Lee makes posts other than the thrill of getting insulted?

Re: Proud Boys and Return of LDSfaqs
Great information on this thread. The OP with the update on how the militias are reacting to Trump's failure to pardon them -- i'd been looking for something like that and wasn't coming up.
What's really astounding is the degree to which this was just a massive ponzi scheme. I'm not sure if that's exactly the right description, but everybody in on it had huge expectations that somebody else was going to work some kind of magic, but nobody had a chance at pulling it off. The Oath Keepers decided Trump failed; he was weak, and had he been stronger he'd have been successful. Trump was sure Mike Pence was the guy to do it. All of this is based on nothing.
The way that I saw it was as an attempt at revolution by meme. If enough people wake up one day and decide money is useless and bitcoin it is, then by golly, money has no value. If enough officials just decide one day (and it's a massive coordination problem even still) that Trump won, then I guess we'd move on as if he'd won.
I just expected that everyone knew they were lying and so once it's over, sure, you're pissed that you didn't get a pardon, but to actually be busted up over someone failing to do their duty; the expectations are just stupidly unrealistic.
Cam's cite from reddit was great. Quite a few details in there I wasn't aware of about QAnon. Until I ran into that guy from my neighborhood, I'd have never believed that people could take it that seriously. Now that the 20th is over, I'm switching back my route for my walks so that eventually I'll run into him again.

We can't take farmers and take all their people and send them back because they don't have maybe what they're supposed to have. They get rid of some of the people who have been there for 25 years and they work great and then you throw them out and they're replaced by criminals.

Sure the suggestion is is a bit of a stretch but are you sure it is completely off base? Sure there is a whole cultural weight encouraging the point of view he has. That cultural cohesion may explain his views but that does not explain his enthusiasm for coming here, ignoring any discussion and latching on to all manner of sharing insults. Sure he can dish them out but is there no thrill in receiving them?Jersey Girl wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 3:34 amYes.huckelberry wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 3:20 amHow about is there any reason Lee makes posts other than the thrill of getting insulted?

People (including children) repeat behaviors from which they profit. Does he profit? You bet he does. What's his profit? Not thrill. Reinforcement. Re: Proud Boys and Return of LDSfaqs
I think it's becoming a part of our culture, the idea that a few people are in posession of the truth about what is really going on. It's like everyone has their version of the Matrix, where some force is in control of everything. The rally/riot on January 6th in a wierd way was like a Star Trek Convention, where everyone dressed up in their favorite regalia, and went off to fight the Evil Empire. Some were genuinely shocked that the government would arrest them for trying to occupy the capital and overthrow a democratically elected government.
If there was a plan, it was difficult to see. Storm the Capitol. No elected officials to harrass or kidnap? Carry off the Speaker's Podium. crap in a few offices. Look for papers. What's next? Wait for the police? Who knows? Yes, there were pipe bombs at the DNC and RNC, but for most people the idea started and stopped with the idea of storming the Capitol and getting Congress to change the vote.
I think it's fair to ask: and then what? Forget about what kind of President you would get. What kind of precedent would you set? Majority rules is trumped by mob rule? If the mob were somehow successful in disenfranchising millions of voters, do you think it would have ended there? Don't you think the millions of disenfranchised voters would have formed some counter-insurgency? And to have another election while in the teeth of a pandemic that his killed more than 100,000 people in less than 40 days? With no mail in voting?
Yeah, that'll work.

Yeah, that'll work.

Here's the problem with this very thoughtful post: no Trump supporter put this much thought into the insurrection. They were acting on mindless id. That's all.MeDotOrg wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 6:48 amI think it's becoming a part of our culture, the idea that a few people are in posession of the truth about what is really going on. If they had thought about it to the extent you describe in your post, they weren't there that day.

Re: this comment of mine from last evening. Lee if you are reading here, I need to put you on ignore. I can't participate in something that I think is unhealthy for you and also for me. I just simply refuse. If you ever start a new topic that isn't about politics and would like to invite me to participate, send me an pm and I will look in on it. As always, I wish you well in all things. I'm just unwilling to take part in political discussions with you any more.Jersey Girl wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 6:29 amPeople (including children) repeat behaviors from which they profit.
