You know, Lem, it sure feels like you're looking for a fight. I'm not sure why.
You think I'm looking for a fight, because you are "not sure why" I would object to you derailing this thread with a post about how tough it is to be male.
Did you read the title of the thread, the content of the OP, or the 11 pages of posts? Or did you just decide to lament your challenges as a male without reading?
What I will say is that it's kind of dumb to alienate your allies, but you do you.
What's that saying? With friends like this, who needs enemies? You came on this thread, explained away the insult in the initial post, complimented the insultor for apologizing even though you thought it was optional, and then you started a lament about how tough it is to be male, and finished up by suggesting that the person who was treated in a sexist manner is just 'looking for a fight.'
If you think you are helping women's causes, Some Schmo, THINK AGAIN.
Maybe the reason you're so offended by my comments is that you're the sexist in this thread. Not every male is your enemy, Lem.
I was not lamenting being a male, for Christ sake. I was simply pointing out that because I'm not female, I don't know exactly what the female experience is. I will also point out that you have no damned clue what it's really like to be male. That's not a judgment but a statement of fact. Empathy is not a replacement for lived experience. That's all I was saying, and that maybe it's a good idea to keep that in mind with people who don't share a common experience.
How is that damned controversial, or a complaint? You're looking to be validated for your suspicion of sexism and couldn't be bothered to make the slightest effort to understand anyone else.
I don't give a flying “F” whether you think I'm a feminist ally or not. I try to be, and that's all I can do. If I don't live up to your expectations, tough crap. Ultimately, you have to deal with your own issues.
Religion is for people whose existential fear is greater than their common sense.

So, you missed every point I made, and on top of it, you are now calling me sexist. You accuse me of thinking every man is my enemy, even though I specifically recommended you read Res Ipsa, Chap, Doc, and other men’s comments on this thread.
All one can do is laugh. Or assume you stumbled onto this thread without reading anything, thinking you could just lecture about what a feminist you are. Seriously, though, read the OP. Read the posts. Read the comment I made about PEOPLE being on a multi-dimensional spectrum. Get past your assumption that posting without thinking is acceptable.
And again, please start your own thread and stop derailing if you need continue pointing out that you think I “have no damned clue what it's really like to be male.” Deal with your own issues there.

Yeah, it's become clear you're as deaf as anyone else.
Alrighty then. Go forth and be offended. Cling to your nonsense. I can't stop you.

Wait, you don't like being accused of sexism? The devil, you say!
I bet you are laughing.
Lol. All I can say is again, please read the OP, read various posts by RI, Chap, Doc, and others. Learn from Moksha what happens when you enter a thread without reading. And yes, all one can do is laugh.

I've read all the posts in this thread, Lem. Have you? I mean... have you really, really read them? I don't think you have, not with the intent to understand, anyway. I think you've read them with the intent to react.
I've been reading both yours and Analytics' posts for a long time now. You don't get to post a thread making an assertion about people with whom I'm familiar and just expect me to buy into every word you're saying without considering my own experience with said people. Frankly, I think your reaction to this event is outrageous, given Analytics' posting history. You have a tendency to find offense anywhere it can be found. (Enjoy your laugh).
Analytics could have handled the original conversation better, but I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt. I'm not going to hate on him, nor am I going to buy into any accusations of sincere sexism on his part just because you think I should.

Of course not. And of course, give the benefit of the doubt to the guy who actually posted the sexist comment, while telling the woman who reported the sexist comment that just because she documented sexism doesn’t mean sexism really happened is also what one should do.
By the way, literally posting the words, “Are you on your period, or something?” is LITERALLY the definition of a sexist comment. Literally.
But by all means, don’t believe me. Just read the words.

Yes, Chap warned that this would be the response. You are exactly replicating what he said would happen.
My experience of listening carefully to highly intelligent and reflective women talking about sharing discursive space with men has taught me that quite a few of them have a significant accumulation of irritation (or worse) with the way us men sometimes talk and behave. I don't feel that way at all about women (in fact I tend to prefer their company to that of men), but I think that if I had to live as a woman I would probably feel the way they sometimes do about men.
Such women have usually learned, however, that it is better not to let that irritation out in the open very often - if they do that they are humorless, over sensitive, aggressive, shrill and so on. But sometimes it just overflows.

I gave you the benefit of the doubt too, until you decided it was in your best interests to attack my posts. Apparently, all feminist posts must be in complete alliance.

Yes, Analytics typed a sexist comment. Does that make him a sexist in his heart? I suppose it must, right?
We should open an investigation.

And how exactly am I replicating anything in this post?
(This doesn't bode well for your accusation of not reading the posts in this thread).
ETA: Oh, I think I've made the connection. (I really had to think about this). You think that because I called your reaction outrageous, that's the same as calling you "humorless, over sensitive, aggressive, shrill and so on..." ostensibly because you're a woman. Is that it?
It couldn't possibly be because I observed you, Lem (a human being who happens to be a woman) overreact to something another human being said. Gender has to play a role here. Because hey, I'm an insensitive male who doesn't know better.
