The Luftwaffe did not chalk up such a gruesome death toll. During the blitz, 43,000 civilians died, an average of 175 each day, a national trauma that is seared in Britain’s collective memory. In the past 100 days, the number of reported excess deaths linked to Covid-19 – which England’s chief medical officer, Chris Whitty, declares “the key metric” – has reached 65,700, a daily mortality rate far deadlier than the Nazi onslaught on British towns and cities between September 1940 and May 1941.

It is not for nothing that Trump apparently regards Johnson as a kind of British version of himself ...
Johnson probably has a higher IQ than Trump, and is better educated. But Johnson's deep laziness and narcissism (like Trump, he hates reading briefing papers), combined with a lack of any political or moral scruple, and a readiness to lie whenever it suits him, render him functionally equivalent.
By the way, please refer to him by his surname whenever possible. The B**** name he goes by in public is effectively a 'stage name' which he uses for public relations reasons to bolster the special personality he has constructed for political purposes - a kind of dishevelled clown, harmless, clever and amusing. In reality he is a ruthless and rather nasty piece of work, whose full name is Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson. His family have never used the second given name, and usually call him Al.

I still wake up every morning hoping the first headline I read is about Trump's fatal cardiac arrest. It's kind of like checking the latest lotto numbers. Maybe one day...
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.
DT isn't being sophisticated with his choices. And according to his metrics he's probably right that Biden isn't going to provide DT with the handful of things he heard during the primary campaign he liked: Free money from Wang and a whatever else he imagined Sanders was going to give away.
I don't think it's possible to engage meaningfully with someone whose politics come down to narrow, transactional self-interest in such crude terms...as we see in folks like Ajax. Everything they say is just confabulation to cover for the rather stark concern of if they might not have to work the 2-9 shift at a minimum wage job that requires no skills to land. Or if they say blatantly racist things and act worse. Coronavirus isn't going to break into that thinking because it can't. DT probably had an ok time during shutdown collecting unemployment and Ajax blames Democrats for shutting down the economy. DT doesn't actually care that Biden voted for the Iraq war. He just cares that it was a differentiator between Biden and Sanders.

Biden has a fairly leftwing platform that involves a lot of "free money" and "giveaways" if that's the terms you're going to use what Sanders or Wang were proposing. Biden has a history of moderation, and was moderate relative to the Democratic primary field this year, but is proposing the most leftwing Democratic proposals in generations in relative terms and ever in absolute terms. It's to the left of Clinton's, which was far to the left of Obama's.
FOX News Polls released yesterday have Biden up over Trump in
Florida +9
Georgia +2
Texas +1
North Carolina +2

Having Biden sit back while Trump the clown makes the case for electing someone else is working. It also solves the foot in mouth problem Biden sometimes has that may or may not be dementia.
He needs to choose the next president for VP as some will worry that Biden won't really be running things, a la Bush/Cheney. However, if Trump were wise, he'd try and bypass Biden and try and engage the VP pick on Twitter and in the media. That would help to highlight the dementia issue. This strategy could easily backfire but down 10 pts, Trump has nothing to lose.

He very well might. He's definitely slipping. It's not really a reason to prefer President Alzheimer's speech over him though.
Aside from that, the odds that he'll be dead in under 8 years are good enough that the VP choice really needs to be someone who can and should be President. More than that usually is considered.
