The moratorium will only last as long as Newsom is around, though, right? Kristi Noem said she was going to remove him from office to liberate California. You don't think she'll keep it in place once she has sent Gavin to the gulag, do you?
That's your conspiracy of the day? Didn't see that coming. I heard she is going to feed Newsom and a dog to a dog.
Does Kristi Noem get to kill the dog on this menu? She has experience with this.

You should contact the LA District Attorney and correct him on this point, since you apparently know more than he does about California criminal law.

Lol. What the “F” ever. California has a moitorium on applying the death part of the death penalty. Even better reason to ask for it over LWOP.
I believe he can still receive a DP sentence. Then he sits his butt there in prison (with the rest who are awaiting execution) until the moratorium is lifted. There hasn't been an execution since 2006 is what I read so a bunch of prisoners sitting on death row still waiting for their sentence to be carried out.

Whatevs. That doesn't take away from the fact that a death penalty requires a unanimous decision on the part of the jury.

It is an addition, not a subtraction. We agree on that. Indeed.
What there is to know about Nick Reiner:

*32
*Born in LA
*Started using drugs as a kid
*Used methamphetamine and heroine
*Liked basketball
*Jealous of his older brother and his relationship with their father. His father and older brother visited all of the baseball stadiums. His father and older brother shared a love for baseball. Nick's passion was basketball.
*Nick said he did not bond with his father.
*1st Rehab at 15
*17 Rehab stays
*Nick was homeless in New Jersey, Maine, and Texas.
*Nick never graduated from high school or college
*Nick described himself as: "A spoiled white rich kid from Hollywood."
*Nick worked on a screenplay with his dad called "Being Charlie". Nick specifically said it was not about him, but he knew the Rehab places.
*Nick wanted to do a podcast with his grandfather when he was alive, but it fell through.
*Nick said, "All I ever wanted was to kill the noise."
*Charged with 2 counts of murder for knifing his biological parents to death.
*Nick is represented by Alan Jackson who famously represented Harvey Weinstein (lost) Kevin Spacey (won), both charged in sexual molestation cases.
*Nick was not medically cleared to attend his latest hearing.
Would appreciate your additions. My observations and media feeds are janky.

Seems we now know.

Nick slit his parents' throats/necks in their bed
Nick left his home after returning from Conan's then returned to the Reiner home

Slightly different twist.

https://x.com/tonybpod/status/2001280906305126761?s=20

Nick dropped out of high school and went on to write (ahem) a screenplay (ahem) about addiction and his life. The whole damn thing is fishy.

I don't agree with all of this. But I damn sure acknowledge the point.
n 2015 #RobReiner apologized for listening to doctors over his addict son.

That son is now charged with murdering him.

He said this about his son’s #addiction: “We were desperate and because the people had diplomas on their wall, we listened to them when we should have been listening to our son.”

Last Sunday, that son stabbed Rob and his wife #MicheleReiner to death in their bedroom.

That’s what #manipulation looks like. That’s what it costs.

Mental health professionals flagged #NickReiner as dangerous. They documented the behavior. They warned his parents. And Nick convinced his father that they were the problem—that the experts were wrong, that the programs didn’t work, that Mom and Dad had failed him by not trusting him over the people trying to save his life.

And it worked.

Nick got his father to direct a movie——where the father is the villain for sending his kid to treatment. Rob called it “the most personal thing I’ve ever done.” He expressed regret for trusting professionals.

His addict son rewrote his story. Made him apologize—on film, permanently—for trying to keep him alive.

I’m not telling you this to demonize or . I’m telling you because this dynamic is playing out in homes across America right now. The addict who turns you against anyone telling the truth. Who makes you feel guilty for holding boundaries. Who convinces you that the professionals are the enemy.

If that’s your life—hear me: You are not the villain for listening to experts. You are not cruel for protecting yourself.
Sometimes love without boundaries isn’t love. It’s a death sentence.

A question people may ask: Do we want to spend time and money on the entire death penalty process because of the cost—both financial and emotional?

The reason people say it’s cheaper to keep a person in prison than to pursue a death penalty case through to execution is that those cases take much longer in court. They are always appealed, and those appellate attorneys have their own teams—investigators and other personnel—all of whom submit bills to the judge in the case, who approves the amounts. There’s a small army in each case that needs to be paid, and this can go on for decades. If you believe in execution for what California refers to as “187 PC” (Penal Code)—which requires malice aforethought—then, once you have a conviction and the defendant enters the general prison population, let everyone know who he is and what he did, and watch what happens. It’s completely wrong and immoral, but if a person believes that mercy cannot rob justice, then maybe this satisfies that certain person, but most importantly it satisfies intelligences that form the foundation of all existence—of all energy, of all matter, of all order, and all that is good. That’s what they say...

Also, Nathan Hochman is now the D.A. in Los Angeles because people were sick of George Gascón and the way he ran the District Attorney’s office.

And if you want to go way back, one can read about Rose Bird and how the people had had enough of her rulings—a name I heard frequently in California from conservative people in the late ’70s and ’80s.

I'm glad we can agree that Kristi Noem is a liar and conspiracy theorist.

An excellent example of the rhetorical technique of importing a desired conclusion into the description of an issue under discussion! In particular:

1. The use of the word "rob": bad stuff, robbery!
2. The use of the magnificent word 'justice' to represent the death penalty, and soft little 'mercy' for opposition to the death penalty.

Congratulations!

Thanks! Excuse my lack of familiarity with the Book of Mormon. So it is Joseph Smith, not yourself to whom my (ironic) congratulations should have been addressed. And that thread started with a post by our much-loved Moksha (sniff!).

I don't think the crime will be very interesting. Looks like escalated DV. Not a lot of mystery. Now, the enabling that lead to the killer living in the guesthouse for five years while raging and binging on drugs.... that, is something. The history is going to be a doozy.
The Democrat propaganda machine will probably find a way to blame Trump.
