As an aside, I'd say that moshka's clever and often obscure literary references are one of the reasons I occasionally lurk. Sure, he can be hit-or-miss, but when it's a hit, it's pure gold.

I can't remember anything about this during the hearing. Did any of the Senators mention this letter during the hearing?

I'm seeing this trumpeted elsewhere as proof that any and all allegations against Kavanaugh are false. But I think it highlights how the whole thing should work; allegation is made, allegation is investigated, appropriate action taken from the findings of that investigation. This shows a working process, not a broken one.

I mean you can start with the President himself, there is a pretty strong implication in his tweet.

A vicious accuser of Justice Kavanaugh has just admitted that she was lying, her story was totally made up, or FAKE! Can you imagine if he didn’t become a Justice of the Supreme Court because of her disgusting False Statements. What about the others? Where are the Democrats on this?

I also saw it in places like /r/The_Donald and it was brought up to me in conversation at work. It isn't really an unexpected response, is it?

I think the shortcomings of the Ford investigation were discussed and debated here already. I feel like barely the surface was scratched in that investigation. If nothing else there was no accusation from the FBI that she had made the whole thing up, was there?

Why would the FBI say something like that? That's not what they do. I mean we have 59 pages of discussion about Ford, and if you're unmoved by Ford's ex-boyfriend who issued a sworn statement claiming three things: 1) Ford coached her friend on how to pass lie detector tests. 2) Ford flew recreationally all the time and never expressed any fear at all. 3) Ford never once mentioned any sexual assault, despite dating him for over five years, then I don't see the point of discussing it all over again.

The point of the update was just to demonstrate that #justbelieveher has serious flaws to it, not only philosophically, but legally. It's a bad strategy to employ.
