I just thought it was an expression I'd never heard before.

...blow me away...

...dick me away...

I can see how you'd think it was a Freudian slip.
Religion is for people whose existential fear is greater than their common sense.

The god idea is popular with desperate people.

No, but that's often used as an excuse to dismiss the data. When you have a correlation combined with a plausible mechanism, there is a reasonable basis to form a hypothesis that warrants serious investigation.
And often those willing to dismiss that correlation also are the first to reject other solutions, such as embracing other countries successful approaches for tackling systemic poverty or prison reform.
Those solutions would be vastly more effective at reducing homicides. Which should be the target, not simply banning guns for the sake of banning guns.

People with houses, stable jobs, stable families, are vastly less likely to shoot people. A universal basic income would be a great start.

That isn’t the only target. Suicides and accidental deaths account for a lot of the gun deaths.

We need to get rid of guns.

That’s simply an extreme position that is unlikely to improve the outcomes we all care about. You’re not likely to win over anyone to your position without compromise.

You start with convincing voters to agree to common sense gun laws like background checks, mental health screenings, waiting periods, etc.

No. That’s pandering. How many mass shootings are enough? There’s one every few months (with the exception of COVID times). Only in the US do we have this preventable problem.

End guns NOW

American exceptionalism is a disgusting imperialist Anglo myth. At least that’s what the academics are telling us now.
