Re: "Senator Al Franken Accused of Groping a Woman in 2006"
I feel quite weird reading the posts by DrC and WG. They seems to be posting from a different planet.
Why do they feel so threatened? I certainly don't. The women I know and respect have been saying for years that there is a small number of men who make a nuisance of themselves or worse in the working environment or just in public places, and I don't disbelieve them. The men I know are glad to hear about the wave of outings of slugs like Weinstein, who represent behaviour they and I feel is quite disgusting and unmanly. None of us feel that our ability to have normal sexual relationships with consenting women is in any way under threat.
But the two gentlemen above seem to think that because some women have finally found the courage to speak about Weinstein and his kind in public, the time is ripe to exclude them from the working and social environment in favour of men even more than they already are (you know, like less promotion for the same achievement, less pay for the same work, less chance of getting a good job in the first place, and so on).
Like I said, weird.

That's weird, Chap. I don't recall typing anything of that sort into the post. Huh. It's almost as if you're projecting a sort of, I dunno, weird characterization that doesn't exist.
I'm all for equality. Cool. Egalitarianism all the way. I'm just stating that the unintended consequences of 'guilt without a trial' that's happening will force the rules to adapt a more defensive posture by men in the workplace. I don't think this will work well for women in both their professional and personal lives.
As always, I advocate for women to report any crimes and to use the legal system if they've been victims of sexual harassment or abuse to hold the perpetrators accountable.

I am glad to hear it. I shall make an effort to understood your and WG's post in a different sense from the one that struck me.
It is good to be told that you are not one of those men who react with panic and rage to any diminution of the great advantages they have long enjoyed over women in the terms of their employment, and their more or less unchallenged informal right to treat women as objects for their amusement and satisfaction.

What? That's how you understood your role with women? No wonder you have such a [deleted] take on reality. You, my friend, have got some massive issues to work through, and one of them is to stop viewing women as victims. That's perpetuating the stereotype they're weak and need the protection of men.
God. Dayum.

Annnndddd.... another groping allegation. I think my "replace Franken ASAP" strategy is starting to look pretty solid.
(CNN)An Army veteran says Sen. Al Franken groped her in December 2003, telling CNN that while she was deployed in Kuwait, the Minnesota Democrat cupped her breast during a photo op.
Stephanie Kemplin, 41, of Maineville, Ohio, is the fifth woman in two weeks to accuse Franken of inappropriate touching, and the second person to allege that such behavior took place while Franken was on a USO tour. Three of the five women have been identified by name.

My view is that (amongst other things) it would be a good thing if a minority of men would take account of the strong wish most women have not to be groped against their will, spoken to or about in relation to their gender in a manner they find degrading, or to have sexual favours demanded of them as the price for their job security or career advancement not being negatively affected. And that as a result that minority of men would stop doing stuff like that.
Do you disagree with that view?

Men and women are going to get together for the foreseeable future. What we need is the ability to make all such get together's consensual.
