Uh, you said you'd probably join the Space Force without knowing what the Space Force is for?DoubtingThomas wrote: ↑Sun Jun 28, 2020 4:29 amI see. Never mind. I will probably be too old when soldiers go to space.

DT is fairly alt-liteish and the favorite candidate of the Democrat leaning part of the alt-lite, and the concerns DT specically has, is Andrew Yang. They also tend to really like Bernie Sanders, but really dislike other mainstream Democrats. The politically involved ones also tend to like Tulsi Gabbard, which would be a tell for DT.
If you told me there was a Democrat on this board who favorably quotes Sargon of Akkad, I'd say the odds that their preferred candidate is one of Yang/Sanders/Gabbard with the others as backup while really disliking the rest of the Democratic field as somewhere approaching a statistical certainty.
He's fairly stereotypical. You don't need to hypothesize cycles and epicycles of fakery to understand his posting persona. You shouldn't be surprised that the type of person to be a Elon Musk / Joe Rogan / Sam Harris fanboy posts on this board.

I am having a hard time distinguishing between criticizing the politics of the nexus of Yang/Sanders supporters as people who just want free stuff as different in substance from the criticizing Democratic voters in general as just people who want free stuff. That skirts over so much nuance, both in terms of ideology and culture, that it's pathetic.

Re: Biden vs. Trump
I don't know about anyone else but I'm depressed that its yet another election between people I loath. But, I think whomever is in office, the systemic problems in this country will remain until we realize that the most important issues are always economic. We are passing through a pandemic and the first thing congress does is give a bunch of money to the wealthy and PPP for the little guy is filled with problems and hoops must be jumped through. For the the wealthy they were probably contacted by their congresspersons and probably took part in making the law. Conveniently we don't even know how much they got from the Cares Act. Year after year both parties give away money to the wealthy via bloated defense budgets and antitrust enforcement is a joke. Soon amazon and walmart will run everything.
We need an economic reset back to the 70's when the economic distribution was spread out the most. That will solve a lot of problems.

Re: Biden vs. Trump
I really dislike Biden, but I view the election as a choice between lung cancer and being slapped in the face. The choice is obvious.
Biden's atrocious history on civil rights as it relates to criminal justice, especially as a drug warrior, is what gets me the most. I'm hopeful that he can at least be boxed in by present-day circumstances. I'm optimistic, but not holding my breath that his reputation can get through good laws on this front, and disappointed that it wasn't a Democratic nominee who really represented meaningful change in this area.
His VP and (hypothetical) AG picks for me would be a big tell for where this is going. There are both terrible and excellent choices supposedly in the running for both.

Re: Biden vs. Trump
My worst case scenario on police reform under a President Biden that I could see happening is Biden backing a proposal to significantly increase federal funding and incentives for local police departments ala 90's Clinton, but tie it to reforms that are largely symbolic in nature and potentially counter-productive. I could easily see that happening.
I'm just crossing my fingers that 1) Biden wins and 2) a better surrounding culture and class of policy wonk prevents this.

It's not about the politics of any group.
