But, again, what's the point when we see just how small everything is, just how vast the Universe is, and how nightmarishly hostile everything is everywhere, to include this tiny, little, speck of dust flying through space all by itself?

Where's the hostility you are talking about?

“Nature is red in tooth and claw.” Gamma ray bursts. Heat death. Black holes. Cancer. Hunger. Parasites. Hurricanes. Global freezing. Death by rabies. Mental illness. Aliens or even worse no aliens. And thousands of other nightmarish things that don’t involve human agency.

I believe the point is that if the universe was made as a testing ground for humans, why all the wasted space?

How is it wasted when you see it, recognize it's vastness, wonder at it and appreciate it?

You are right Jersey Girl ,but but how could God waste all that resource for wonder. Is it a good investment?

Someone observed (u2) that our God is not short of cash mister.

He can afford to be prodigal with creation.

But what pains me here is the idea that creation, even this small world is here to be a testing ground. What an awful and narrow picture of life. Can anyone squeeze themself into such a tiny mold?

What happened to Bible study?

A few thoughts:

The enormity of the universe is a poor argument against there being a God. The argument implies (actually it demands) a human knowledge of God's purpose in creating the universe.

I have no idea why God created such an enormous universe. Perhaps it's to display His glory. His wonder. His power. His majesty. I dunno?

In every other part of the universe of which we so far have knowledge apart from the tiny blue spot on which we are currently located, we'd be dead within a few seconds of arriving there.

That's hostile.

I know. That's why I am certain that I don't have enough faith to be an atheist.
