That would have been so cool. I am such a geek when it comes to that stuff! Do you live near LA? Is that where the screening was?
Yeah, I live in Los Angeles, so there are always interesting screenings around town. I couldn't list all the stuff I've gone to, but these are some of the highlights:
- "Star Wars" 30th Anniversary Screening with Q&A with George Lucas, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and the editors, SFX and sound crew.
- Tribute to Olivia De Havilland with lots of Q&A with her and rare clips from her films.
- "The Sound of Music" (restored in 70mm) with all the "kids" there, as well as other cast and crew. No Julie Andrews though.
- "Mary Poppins" (restored) with Richard Sherman Q&A, as well as other cast and crew (no Julie Andrews).
- "Braveheart" with >60minute Q&A with Mel Gibson. It was mostly a stream-of-consciousness type thing. That guy is
crazy.
- "The Abyss" with James Cameron Q&A
- "Titanic" with 14 cast and crew members Q&A (no James Cameron though). Also saw "Titanic" with Gloria Stuart Q&A.
- Every year, they screen 15 minute clips from the 7 movies with the best SFX for that year for Oscar consideration. Entrance is free, and it's an easy way to see (usually the best parts) of these movies in a huge movie theater.
- T2 (70mm), Lawrence of Arabia (70mm) and Ben-Hur at the Cinerama Dome, with
introduction by Charlton Heston.- "This is Cinerama" and "How the West Was Won" in Cinerama at the Cinerama Dome (now the "Arclight").
- "Tron" with a 30 minute intro from Director Steve Lisberger, with lots of interesting stories about the film's production.
