Shades:

Whatever you do, you have to get all of your songs into your iTunes library. It sounds like some of your songs are in the iTunes library, and some of them are on a separate storage device. The bottom line is that *all* of the music needs to be in the library. (And I'm not sure how you do that....) I guess you could burn CDs of all the music that's on the device, and then transfer the songs into iTunes, but I wonder if there's an easier way to accomplish the transfer....

I'm back to using Windows. I have iTunes loaded.

I suppose I'm a step or two closer to getting this resolved, but I'm still having problems. When I had it synch my iPod, it only loaded about half of my songs. So I chose the "Configure manually" option, but it doesn't have any controls to actually, you know, let me configure it manually. Damn this thing!

I have a storage disk drive with all of my songs, videos, etc. that I want to transfer to my iPod, but if I plug it in and then drag-and-drop the files using Windows Explorer, the iPod doesn't detect them and thus doesn't allow me to play them. Again, damn this thing!

Can anyone help me?

Shades---Do you have the latest edition of iTunes loaded? I'll be happy to walk you through the process, but I need to know which version of iTunes you're using.

Doctor Scratch:

I figured out the "Library" bit. That directory appears to be an iTunes-created subfolder of the "My Music" folder in my C:/ drive. Unfortunately, it's an old drive and I only have 3/4 of a gigabyte of free space left, whereas my music and videos are about four times that size.

My music and videos are on an internal hard drive. I noticed that some songs it picks up immediately; others it has to "convert." It completely ignores the songs I have that are also videos.

I'm using iTunes version 10.1.
