You should be "accurate".... You mean "African lineage".

"Black" never was a disqualifyer to the Priesthood. It was those of African lineage that was banned, not blacks. Plenty blacks of Central/South America, the Islands who were just as black as African blacks and all other colors inbetween WERE given the Priesthood. Even some "whites" were not given the Priesthood or had it taken away per their African lineage.

This idea it was "blacks" the ban applied to is simply another anti-mormon misrepresentative race-bait.

In American English, "blacks" is referring to people of African descent.

It takes balls to accuse other people of race-baiting when you're defending a church that treated an entire ethnicity as second class citizens for most of its history.

In actual "reality" and the rest of the planet "blacks" does not only refer to those of African descent.

I was a part of this Church pre-1978 and it NEVER treated blacks as "second class citizens", no more than it can be accused of treating women as second class simply because they don't have the Priesthood officially. Likewise Christ wasn't "racist" simply because he denied all non-Jews from being Christian, and it took Peter AFTER Christ's death to get a revelation to then take the Gospel to the Gentile.

You wanting to attribute "racism", bigotry, immorality etc. to everything that your modern social conventions think are bad, does not bad make in reality. It is ignorance within your own mind of the issues in question. I know because I've been you, and thought the same negative things about the Church. But I was wise enough to put away my negative judgments of the righteous and good of the earth and educate and experience further. Are you?

The "Blacks" of the West Indies and South America are not of African descent? I hadn't heard that. Where did they come from? They're certainly not Lamanites.

Did the LDS church think Black South Americans were not of African descent despite the use and cultivation of African slaves in the Caribbean and South America since the 1600's? How odd!

Actually they are/were considered Lamanites or from some other lineage. Ever been to Tonga, Hawaii, etc.? Some of them are just as black as African blacks, and they are and consider themselves Lamanites.

Some blacks of those areas or certain areas were considered of African descent and others were not. I took a Book of Mormon class from the first black African from Brazil who was ordained to the Priesthood and to go through the Temple, Marcus Martins.

How odd you don't know the "actual" truths in relation to the Priesthood ban, but only know the anti-mormon version.

A quote from BY:

"What chance is there for the redemption of the Negro?" Young responded, "The Lord had cursed Cain's seed with blackness and prohibited them the Priesthood".

I've never been a Mormon so I'm a little fuzzy on the "finer?" points. Even given my ignorance in doctrinal matters, the above quote has to be considered a racist statement against "Negroes".

Regardless of how the church did or does define "Black", singling out one race (Negroid Africans) for unequal consideration is racist.

There do exist people in the world that have dark skin and are not considered Negroid (John Boehner comes to mind), but the "Black" people in Central and South America are of African descent. So is everyone on the planet, as a matter of scientific fact.

I'll admit to having many problems with Mormon doctrine, but this doesn't make me anti-Mormon. I have no "anti" feelings towards the members of the Mormon church.
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.
