Given what we’ve seen since you started this thread, I’d have to disagree with the title.

The recession would have been a disaster for the Democrats.

That assumes that the timing, scope and severity of a recession would have been like what we are experiencing now under the current Administration.

Under a different leadership and mindset, things may have been quite different.

If Trump benefits from positive conditions during his presidency, he could get 8 years to tear down our institutions that safeguard against autocrats.

As time is the witness, he’s been working diligently towards that end.
