I happen to like Clamato by itself, especially the picante variety. It is one of the few drinks I like about as well at room temperature as when it is cold. On a cold winter night I even enjoy it hot. I also enjoy V8 vegetable juice in the same way.

A cigar? Yuck!!! Few things are more offensive to me than the smell and look of a smoked cigar -- especially the wet, chewed end! To me it looks like a big, fat turd and smells worse!

I will say, though, that as far as drinking is concerned, I harbor no disrespect for anyone who drinks responsibly, with no intention of getting drunk. It just isn't for me, and almost certainly will never be.

Mormonism is interesting in it's view that there is a binary divide between not drinking and abuse of alcohol, and nothing in between. I suspect such can't eat a single Hersey's Kiss either, or leave pizza slices in the box. I don't view that as my problem, thought I disagree with the perpetuation of the binary view. Adults can be responsible in many ways even if some people seem to not be able to. My advice being, don't project your problems onto others.

Sir, I call BS on your above expository and also failed attempt to portray my position in light of the actual content of my posts. I do not for a single second engage in the type of binary approach to alcohol consumption that you so wrongheadedly attribute to me!

Have you no shame?!?!

I simply contend that there is no such thing as a good night cap because hard liquor tastes like crap. I, therefore and likewise, do not choose to anesthetize myself to any degree be it a mild and/or mellowing effect or a full on pass out drunk state, with something that tastes like crap.

If you have a preference for swallowing what tastes like crap, that is your right and while I defend your right to the death (yours not mine) to maintain and also express your preference, I too, defend my right to be "heard" in my own efforts to express my own position and preferences without some guy with a cigar on a hot summer night misrepresenting my position as stated.

Again, have you no shame?!?!

If I were a betting person, I would almost bet that you're the type of snooty tight ass who feels a need to wax poetic about the superiority of bamboo vs common laminate, as if there were not alternative in between or like porcelain planking doesn't even exist. In point of fact, porcelain planking does exist and likewise, luxury vinyl tile, cork, et. al., so let's not kid ourselves into thinking that your haughty remarks to me above correctly portray my position as stated for there are many and other possibilities if one only bothered to read the posts for what they say, not what one imagines them to say, for the express purpose of constructing a strawman in full public view.

Shame on you. Verily, I say, shame!

Excuse me. This thread was to collect suggestions about good night caps. Please take your aversion to big fat smelly turd smoking elsewhere. I invite you to create a new topic thread for just that purpose.

Jersey Girl, I love honor, and regard him as one of the most intelligent and thoughtful posters here, but I hate even the thought of his cigars with a red hot passion!

Let's not confuse our aversions with rights of others.

One man's smelly turd, is another man's pleasure.

I never implied otherwise! Just don't ever come anywhere near me with a lit cigar, cigarette or pipe in your possession!

Question. Does "night cap" necessarily mean something alcoholic? Could something like a smoothie or a root beer float or some other favorite, nonalcoholic beverage qualify as a night cap?

As alcohol is a depressant, a night-cap is generally taken to be an alcoholic beverage to help relax and calm you before going to bed. A root-beer float? Not so much.

To add, I wouldn't consider beer a good night cap because you are just going to be up peeing later.

Cigars are funny in that I tend to agree regarding the secondhand smell of an old cigar. Cigars are also one of the things I've found where quality REALLY influences the experience itself. Other than hidden zucchini, I can't imagine there being such a thing as bad chocolate cake. But I'm very selective about cigars because a bad cigar is terrible while a good one is simply delish. A good cigar with a cup of good coffee - mmmmm, Sunday morning perfection.
