It will ignite the whole region, increase Russia and China's sphere of influence, and lead to terrorist reprisals throughout the world. Our way of fighting this war against terror seems to cause more terrorist provocations. Assassinating the Iranian second in command was a huge bonehead move in this regard. A huge bonehead move provoked by Trump's psychopathic need to meet his own needs over those of America.

I see our awful media - or rather influential people within it - is already giving the very serious treatment to claims made by people who pathologically lie on issues both big and small to a degree that is difficult to get your head around. You don’t have to pretend to give them the benefit of the doubt to seem fair, you idiots.

The Iraq War wasn’t even that long ago. They were alive then.

Quite possibly, yeah. Wars aren’t always a boost to Presidents. They don’t have to be.

While this is something Republican's can rally around, especially the cost expenditure, is it really something that can be sold to the rest of America? Will they really feel the re-election justification for Trump's psychopathological self-serving action?

This will also move the rest of the world away from America. I imagine travel warnings are also up for many parts of the world.

EAllusion wrote:The Eric Trump tweet at least has enough ambiguity to offer a sliver of plausible deniability. Lindsey Graham confirmed he had advance knowledge while Congressional Democrats, including the Speaker of the House and Senate minority leader, were kept in the dark. President Trump then retweeted Dinesh D’Sousa saying they were kept in the dark for the same reason Iran was. That’s unconscionable stuff.

I’ll bet you a small sum that Sonny Boy was in on the plan, and made the appropriate purchases for his equities and options portfolio in the hours beforehand. This targeted strike had a profound effect on overnight and intra-day movements of dozens of energy-related stocks.

As we cannot see the tax returns of anyone within the Trump family - and every effort will be taken to keep that the status quo - it’s quite easy for that family to profit immensely from events like this. And although a number of market organizations and observers have noted that a number of odd equities transactions with serious and curiously fortuitous magnitude for some entities have been occurring with some regularity over the past couple of years, it’s not possible to identify the folks profiting due to the usual privacy safeguards.

None of this is conspiratorial balderdash. It’s just not something that you or I need to know about. ; )

Do you think GWB invaded Iraq as a way to boost his popularity and win the next election? I think he really believed the best thing to do was try to set up democracy in Iraq. I never thought that was possible but GWB did. It didn't win him any popularity with the left or right and he knew that going into it.

If Trump were just winning popularity points with the war hawks, he would have went to war with Turkey over the Kurds.
And when the confederates saw Jackson standing fearless as a stone wall the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

I hope so, but I fear he may not wrong about that in this instance. I have feared all along that Trump would try something like that, especially if his poll approval ratings dropped. I think his whole purpose in dropping out of the Iran/nuclear accords was to make war with Iran inevitable. It is more obvious than ever that all he really cares about is himself and retaining and boosting his own wealth and power. It would be horrible, but not very surprising to me, if he chose to use or threaten the use of nuclear weapons if this escalates into full scale war with Iran.

I have very little doubt about that. Nor is there any reasonable doubt about Russia and other authoritarian regimes in the world, especially China, gaining additional power and influence in the world to the detriment and weakening of the USA and what used to be its principal friends and allies, before the horrible aberration of Trump's election to the Presidency.

On the flip side of the issue is that we’ve been in a proxy war with Iran since for a long time. The deceased General of Iranian special forces has been responsible for asymmetrical attacks against us and our allies for years, so I doubt anyone is weeping for the man. I suppose if you come into Iraq, organize an attack against our embassy, and you’re a known asshole you’re rolling the dice.
