Huh. Speaking of "mysterious gay cancer" phase, it's looking like concern about possible inflammatory syndromes in children can be upgraded from "way too preliminary to be on the average person's radar to worry about" to "hold on to your butts."

EA I hope you listen to the senate hearings. Trump's going to go off on a tear over the testimonies.

Yeah, that and long term effects of organ damage.

Paying attention to the Supreme Court right now. It is, as expected, bad. Very bad.
I saw in an alert that Dr. Fauci acknowledged that there are meaningfully more deaths than the official tally of 80,000ish. I think that's the first time I've seen a Trump admin official on the record stating that.

We have got us some Remdesivir. Not much. But we've got it!

I'm glad that they discovered a drug that helps, even though Remdesivir's effectiveness is somewhat limited. I hope they find something more effective than that. There are some other drugs now in clinical trials that may turn out to be more promising than Remdesivir.Jersey Girl wrote: ↑Thu May 14, 2020 4:20 amWe have got us some Remdesivir. Not much. Ultimately the best solution, when finally available, will probably be a vaccine. Have you heard of this promising vaccine approach?
UPMC and University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine Scientists Announce Potential Vaccine. Be sure to watch the accompanying video!
This type of vaccine, according to the UPMC researchers, can be easily and cheaply scaled up to mass production and distribution. It doesn't need refrigeration for either transport or storage, and can be stored indefinitely at room temperature until needed.Scientists at UPMC and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine have announced a potential vaccine against SARS-CoV-2, the new coronavirus causing the COVID-19 pandemic.
When tested in mice, the vaccine produces antibodies specific to SARS-CoV-2 at quantities thought to be enough to neutralize the virus.
The vaccine is delivered through a fingertip-sized skin patch. The research team calls this vaccine PittCoVacc, short for Pittsburgh Coronavirus Vaccine.
A paper on the vaccine appeared April 2 in EBioMedicine, which is published by The Lancet. It is the first study on a potential COVID-19 vaccine to be published after a critique from fellow scientists at outside institutions.
UPMC and University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine researchers were able to act quickly because they laid the groundwork during earlier coronavirus epidemics.
Scientists also use a new approach to deliver the drug, called a microneedle array, to increase potency. This array is a fingertip-sized patch of 400 tiny needles that deliver spike protein pieces into the skin, where the immune reaction is the strongest.
The patch goes on like a Band-Aid, and the needles, which are made entirely of sugar and protein pieces, simply dissolve into the skin.
Additionally, this vaccination technique can be adapted for applying any kind of vaccine, not just corona virus, including the common flu. They have applied for approval for human trials, which will hopefully be approved and started soon. I fervently hope this works out as well as anticipated and becomes widely available. Imagine! Never having to endure a needle to get vaccinated again, for anything! I can hardly wait for this to become widely available for all routine vaccinations -- not just covid-19!

Re: CV-19 therapeutic drug trials
No, Gunnar, I don't believe I've heard about that particular vaccine development. I think our best and most immediate solution to fight this virus besides continuing social distancing, masking, staying at home, and continued efforts to develop a viable vaccine is convalescent plasma.
I don't worry about needles. I've been shot up so many times in my life I'm completely numb to it.
