Most of my close friends have passed away,
I am sorry for your great loss.
So you can imagine my delight at discovering an online community that shares my interests and opinions on Mormonism and politics. The amount of hate speech here is so overwhelming that I decided to quit posting for months. When other users openly criticize the character and ideas of some of the posters here, I don't know what to say. Even though I disagree with Ceeboo on political and religious issues, I will never treat a fellow human being with the same level of disrespect as many of the forum regulars do toward Ceeboo. The use of groupthink to control churchgoers was a major factor in my decision to cease going. It appears that the intention here is to dissuade people from posting by utilizing groupthink. To deter others from participating, certain members are resorting to personal attacks in their posts. Personal attacks are acceptable in a lower kingdom, but I don't think that's the case here. Why is it that a small number of board members are subject to such intense animosity?
Being the elephant in the room, I will resist the temptation to comment on the substance of your OP - Rather, as someone who has been partaking in this community for many years (perhaps approaching two decades?) I have decided to offer a few words relating to the section of your post that I have bolded - because I think it's much more important in meaningful ways.

As I reflect upon the totality of my personal experience that I have had as a member of this particular online community (which is many years and involves countless individual people and covers a wide variety of topics/subjects) I end up feeling quite fortunate for a variety of reasons.

In an attempt to not bore you. I will keep it short and simply say that I have benefited by many people who were willing to share their personal knowledge with me - many who have forced me to think (or rethink) some of my positions - many who have been generous enough to share their personal life experiences with me - and perhaps most importantly, many who have provided a laugh, or shared in a laugh with me, at various times in my life when a seemingly meaningless laugh - on a random night - during a random moment in time, was extremely meaningful and valuable to me. For this alone, I am most grateful to many people who were once part of this community as well as some who are still part of this community.

I mention this because of what you wrote in your OP (what I bolded) because as I see it, we human beings just don't benefit from community, we need community (sometimes the need and benefit is greater at certain times in our lives than at other times in our lives). So, given your stated delight in your OP, I wanted to offer you a bit of encouragement as it relates to this community and the board that houses said community.

It's hard to discuss something/anything when there is a fundamental disagreement with facts, and the attendant gaslighting and ridicule that occurs when the blessed narrative isn't supported. Four years ago, many posters here were haranguing anyone that didn't automatically agree with the laptop/russian influence narrative and that turned out to be nonsense. Prior to that, there was the russiagate idiocy that turned out to be nonsense. No, there is no discussion here, only reinforcement of narrative, regardless of the facts, and ridicule to anyone questioning it. However, do whatever. Just don't expect anything but an echo chamber.
You should be more specific about the narrative you’re referring to:

1. The Trump campaign assertion (still being made) that 51 intelligence officials wrote a letter claiming that Hunter Biden’s laptop was not real, or -

2. The letter by 51 intelligence officials who stressed that emails claimed to be from Hunter Biden looked like the product of Russian disinformation.

https://www.politico.com/f/?id=00000175 ... 9f9b330000

These two are very different things. The first claim is bogus, because anyone can read the letter from the link above.
I get it. The letter was the 2nd but the media and those here pushed the 1st, pushed whatever, because any good American would do whatever to dethrone the wannabe Hitler. It was by design, like how you periodically misrepresent posts for narrative sake.

This is probably why you attribute the 2nd to Trump when it really was the media hype and those here that pushed the nonsense narrative.

Unfortunately, your thread title is incorrect. If it were true, then Hitler would have been atomized the first time he ever opened his mouth.
We can't take farmers and take all their people and send them back because they don't have maybe what they're supposed to have. They get rid of some of the people who have been there for 25 years and they work great and then you throw them out and they're replaced by criminals.

The two relate to the same prop - the laptop.

Most folks that I know, or who posted here, accept the second item as the factual choice. No one attributed the second item to Trump; he pushes the first item.

We still occasionally see some regulars on this board try to claim that the first item is true. Then those same folks accuse others who disagree as being part of a group misled by false narratives and the media.

Ok. Regardless, it's still not what you and your compatriots, religious zealots claimed it to be. It belonged to Hunter Biden and was covered up to prevent a Joe Biden loss.

Posts like this are why I would never ever lump you in with any of the conservative trolls that swing in and out of the forum. And I get a little frustrated when I see others doing that.

There have been a lot of great thoughtful posts lately that go against the “groupthink” in a nuanced and respectful manner. And a lot of the “group thinkers” have similarly responded in a thoughtful and not merely reactionary way. I really enjoy that level of discourse here.

Yes, the laptop is Hunter Biden’s. That’s exactly one of the issues I’m pointing out. Trump and his lackeys tried to mislead the public by claiming that the letter asserts that the laptop isn’t Biden’s. In fact, the letter isn’t even about a laptop; it specifically refers to claims about emails of dubious origin.

You might ask where those supposed emails are today. All we got were several snapshots of a portion of someone’s desktop screen displaying other portions of something alleging to be an email. Strange that Giuliani and Team Trump had their hands on that laptop for as long as they did and even they couldn’t conjure up something that seemed authentic or indicated ‘corruption.’ I wonder why.

No, you don't get it. You're stuck in an idiotic bubble of nonsense and you can't get out. You keep repeating these established lies and you do so all the while pretending it is everyone else who is pushing lies. All the media did during that time was refuse to report on something that had not been substantiated. When Rudy Giuliani was the only person with an alleged copy of the alleged hard drive and he gives it to a far right outlet like the NY Post for them to post a hit piece, and then the authors of the hit piece refused to put their names on it because it lacked credibility, and then when the NY Post refused to share the "evidence" with other news outlets, then you can't whine and moan because legit media doesn't just go along with the NY Post's BS spin. I know it upsets you and the MAGA morons so much because it didn't make a dent and your hopes was that it would throw the election to Trump, but such is life. Get over it. And stop blaming media for doing their jobs while sucking up to crackpot propaganda like the NY Post.
Which "story" about the laptop did it revise, and did you even check? Or did you even check the date of the "revision"? There were many "stories" that were being told about the laptop. We were told it had incriminating evidence and emails proving Joe Biden was on the take with China. We were told it had incriminating evidence proving Hunter Biden was involved in a prostitution ring. The "stories" that the Right pushed so hard were in fact unsubstantiated. But you don't seem to care about legit journalism or what's actually substantiated. You only seem to care about whatever horse crap lies comes from the likes of Giuliani and company.

Great post Ceeboo!
At the end of the day Ceeboo happily supports a rapist, a felon, and a fascist who has said he wants to cripple bedrock of our democracy and recreate the country in his own image. And that's OK, because it means Democrats go to jail and minorities get rounded up and deported by the millions. He's cool with all of that because, something something, abortion is murder, something something, Jesus loves Trump, something something, .... in reality who knows what Ceeboo thinks or how he rationalizes being a Christian and supporting the literal anti-Christ. All we can really determine is that the end justifies the means for his religious agenda.

HE DEBATES NOTHING.

Never has.

Nobody started a thread attacking Ceeboo, it was Ceeboo who started playing victim, luring us to call Trump supporters what they actually are. Don't ask questions if you can't handle the answers. There is simply no excuse for grown adults in 2024 to support Trump after 8 years of nightmares caused by his idiotic politics.
