And what I see is a Christian apologist. No more questions to Gaz, please. He's a "good Christian". We should take everything he says for granted. He knows all about his sister, and exactly how she feels, and what motivated her. Jersey swallows this like monkeys swallow peanuts. Give Gazza the benefit of the doubt - because he's a "good Christian".

I know of several situations similar to Gaz's, most being LDS households, since I grew up in Utah and in the Church etc. There is no easy answer. There is one pronounced trend among LDS families though, and that's this weird battle the parents get locked into with the child that just never ends. Neither can ever let go. I have no issue at all with parents, when the situation gets extreme, basically writing off the kid, changing locks and getting a restraining order. Grandkids or not. That's what I'd do, and probably before the grandkids are born or old enough to have any idea who I am. I actually do know one LDS family who did just that, smart mofo's. I only know about it because one of the children -- breaking apparently a severe family confidence -- told me. No one was ever supposed to speak of the sister. These were pretty liberal LDS who watched R rated movies though. How did she end up? I got the feeling no one in the family knew, of course I never ever brought the subject up and that single discussion was all there ever was.
But having said all that, there are a number of odd disconnects in Gaz's musings. First of all, the "hatred" is a bit odd. I mean, on the one hand, I can see it, but I think it must be to a large extent a byproduct of believing in the false doctrine of free agency, where the sister at every turn is making a "choice" and "responsible" and all that. Well, between possible psych issues and drug use, basically you can write off people ever being "grateful" or nice, or whatever. Gaz has some weird expectations -- everyone knows that anything you do for her at a certain point is just going to be used or f'd up, so you either adjust expectations, or change the locks. And not take it personally, as you wouldn't take personally a rabid dog that bites you. You might put it down, or take it to the pound, but a rational person wouldn't "hate" it with all his heart.
Next, while I don't doubt in general the extreme stories Gaz tells, I do doubt that his sister was straight out of "The Ring". Pure evil incarnate. There is something messed up about a Mormon "Leave it to Beaver" household in the first place and I don't think one of the "beavers" can objectively recount how it all went down. I mean, of all the similar situations I can think of, the person of issue has some redeeming qualities, and the stupid LDS expectations and general brainwashing attempts most definitely played some part in the child's rebellion. I'm not saying at all that it was Gaz's family's fault, but there is more to it than a person was born that used her free agency to never make a single right choice.
Let's also not forget the disconnect between his story and his attempt to justify extreme measures toward a gay child. First of all, Gaz's "Leave it to Beaver" mentality about sin is totally f'd up. Just as he see's his sister as having no redeeming qualities and never having ever made a decent choice, he sees a child that's gay being the incarnation of nothing but moral depravity. There are gay Mormons who go on missions, who find a way to integrate with the Church. There are gay Mormons who leave the church but then go on to be successful in life and don't ever cause anyone in the family problems. Second, and even more important, Gaz's justification for extreme measures toward his hypothetical gay child were how that child would bring down the rest of the family spiritually. Well, considering Gaz's siblings and he plotted out a killing, it doesn't sound like his sister was making much headway in corrupting them, tempting them into her lifestyle. In fact, the entire family stayed "Leave it to Beaver" despite all the sins of the sister.
Finally, Gaz has now used this experience which according to his own doctrine, was agreed upon by all parties in the preexistence as a trial, to basically come to adopt Satan's plan. His thoughts in retrospect are that if the Sister would have been killed, the grandkids wouldn't have had the issues they've had, and that "Leave it to Beaver" would have played out in full black-and-white comfort. The same goes for his hypothetical gay child, kill him, before he has the chance to sin or lead others into sin. Of course, this finds company in standard apologetic waterboarding approval. Prevent a possible greater evil by being evil one's self.
