But I also see lots of the same thing where the person doing it doesn't seem aware of it at all. in my opinion, if the goal is to elicit civil interaction, it is important for folks to assume full responsibility for their own behavior and only their own behavior. Otherwise, there is no escape from the never ending justification of bad behavior by viewing one's own bad behavior as a justified response to someone else's bad behavior.

The examples of standard trolling technique are everywhere today! This is an absurd post that not a realistic response to the person quoted. It's just a troll saying whatever they think will disrupt. This insight into the trolling thought processes is fascinating to read, and worth saving for a documentation of how trolls work.

And this is typical of Lem and the other pissboys. If you do not like a post, it is trolling. You spend more words addressing my character than the content. You make conclusions not based on the substance of what was said. You dismiss anything that does not blow smoke up your ass. And posts that address that are considered trolling.

Here's the problem with the "personal insult" rule. Isn't the offense in the eye of the receiver?

If someone called me a Trump fan (and I were easily offended), that would represent quite an insult. However, if I called ajax a Trump fan, he'd react with, "Yes, of course."

People attempt to insult me here all the time, and I just don't give a damn. If that makes their day, why should I care? I know who I am. Let them tell themselves whatever story helps them sleep at night. It's their problem, not mine.

So the question is, how is a moderator going to determine whether something is an insult or an observation? Are we just going to have them move every post someone complains about?

Seems untenable to me.
