seems like the issue is not one of guns but rather one of school security...one of access.
why not invest in security personnel, controlled access, and effective solutions?....to assume the threat is always from a gun simply allows for knives, spears, and sticks.

After Columbine, after Virginia Tech, after Aurora, after Oak Creek Sikh Temple, and now after Sandy Hook, people will say: now is not the time to discuss gun control. Wait until passions subside. When these events occur so frequently that they become a part of each news cycle, will it then be time to discuss gun control?

Guns, and bullets, are not even a part of this issue...they just happen to be guilty by association. You have touched on the larger and more accurate issue.....but alas, a coward has no freedom - and violence is also an unforgiving master.

Just because we can't hope to implement a law with perfect results doesn't mean that implementing said law wouldn't ameloriate the situation to some extent. We can't just not try because it's not a perfect solution. Maybe several imperfect solutions can have a cumulative positive effect.

So, what I suggest is banning certain guns. No one can own them rather than just taking them from a certain group...adding to the stigma and fear of people with mental illness and disabilities.

I'm expecting some heated retorts, here, but I think any gun that's sole purpose is to kill people (hand guns, assault rifles, etc) should be banned for anyone other than the military and police. I'm tired of the NRA's lobbying just to satisfy the juvenile desire of gun collectors to play army at the expense of children and other innocents.

The Second Amendment was talking about muzzle loading rifles and swords.

Nope. The French army, with all it's men and munitions couldn't stop the Nazis. Nor the Poles. What chance would disorganized Jews have? Even with rifles?

To their credit, the Jews did try that in the Warsaw Ghetto. It lasted less that a month.

Are you suggesting that the U.S. government is planning such a holocaust? Remember, WE are the U.S government. I think the only people that pose a threat to ordinary citizens are crazy people with hand guns and assault rifles (as seen multiple times this week).
