What the ____?
Doubting Thomas will argue that it was the elderly man's age and arthritis that caused the injuries rather than the officer throwing him down on the street.

I don't know what he'd say. I'm not about targeting DT. I'm truly shocked at the behavior I observed on that video. One minute we're concerned about protecting the elderly as high risk potential victims of COVID-19 and then the next, we're shoving them down on concrete.

What a difference a couple of days makes, right?

ALL NEWSIn Camden, New Jersey, Police Officers Marched Peacefully With Protesters, Even BBQ’d Together

And let me just say that Camden has had a bad rep for violent crime.

Last night two cops were fired in Atlanta for excessive force after Mayor watches this video.
WTF? Its like the cops have chosen the path of escalation and refuse to learn from mistakes.

Here's another long collection of police misconduct during the protests:

Yes, it seems the police everywhere are intentionally targeting the media in at least 50 separate incidents.

The police are a well-organized gang. Journalists would be advised to steer clear of them due to their long documented history of violence.

With at least a few dozen examples of police deliberately targeting press for violence floating out there, it's worth pointing out that police members don't stop having political views when they put on the uniform and it is distinctly likely that at least some of them doing this feel rage at "fake news media" both before and after they put on their riot gear.

ETA:

That example is comparatively mild to a lot of the stories, but the camera angle gives a good sense of how that officer had a target to hone in on. Was that specific person someone who rants about the luggenpresse in his spare time? We don't know, but I'd bet the house that's the case at least in some of these incidents.

One of the subtexts of videos like this is that 1) it's a bunch of them that 2) feel no problem doing this directly in front of recording cameras. That's an indication of feeling of impunity. Even now, having lost their jobs is a fairly radical response that they probably didn't see coming and has a decent chance of being reversed via the collective bargaining process. The idea that they should be doing some hard time in prison for their actions currently seems impossibly out of reach. That we should hold people entrusted with a monopoly over violence to at least as high of a standard as an average citizen when it comes to assault just doesn't land.
