If you come away from that still supporting the Southern rebellion then there's just no hope for you. note: I realize I'm being American-centric, so for that I apologize to our friends from other countries, but you know... riots and whatnot.

I was watching a video of police walking up to a person criticizing them, tearing gassing him in the face, then violently taking him to the ground for arrest and it occurred to me that if this keeps up, it's only a matter time before they kill someone in clear video footage ala Floyd again. That'll do wonder to keep things calm.

This one's good because it's not just police arresting a person for free speech, but the speech he gives that they arrested him for is actually quite good. It's a plea for understanding and peace and they respond by arresting him.

The state imposes restrictions on where and when you can get a hair cut to slow the spread of a deadly pandemic and armed militias occupy statehouses because their freedom is under assault. A police state is violently assaulting and arresting people for criticizing them, and if those militias show up at all, it's to take their side. I'm beginning to think that they aren't motivated so much be freedom.

(Jking, of course. It's always been freedom for me, repression for thee as the dominant ideology in that crowd.)

What a transparently despicable coward! The protesters he had tear gassed to give him "safe" path surely realize how deliberately deceptive and cowardly that that little act was, and so must the guards and secret service personnel ordered to facilitate it. If I were member of that security detail, that little episode would have aroused undying contempt for Trump, if I were not already opposed to him.

Yes, that is what I was referring to in my post. I'm fresh out of words to further describe my reaction to that bit of contemptible political theater.

American military tautologically can't do death squads because that would imply America is a despotic country like we normally associate with the term, and America cannot be thought of as that. So we'll have to come up with a different label for organized state forces hunting down and murdering members due to their affiliation with a disfavored political group. Murder squads? Nah. Death panels, deaths squads, it's the same principle at work here. Whether one agrees with it or not isn't based on the underlying facts but ones baked in views about the parties involved.

I don't know honor. If Obama proposed advisory boards that decided when to withdraw health care from the elderly to let them die as a cost savings measure, I'd have no problem calling them "death panels." The problem is that was a lie. On the other hand, Matt Gaetz did propose using the US military to hunt down Antifa like we did Al Queda. That happened and I have no problem calling it a call for death squads. That one is truth and the other is lie seems lost on you because "BOTH SIDES!"

Taking what he said, "Now that we clearly see Antifa as terrorists, can we hunt them down like we do those in the Middle East?" there are numerous concerns it raises as well as falsehoods that form it's primary foundation. All of which are worth bringing forward, raises concerns over, and arguing against. The premise of Antifa being seen or even conceivably defined as a terrorist organization is dishonest. It relies on certain tropes regarding both protestors and Antifa that aren't based on facts. And his statement is a dog whistle green lighting the use of violence against protestors in a very Trump-like manner.

Yet because you are ok with saying this is essentially Gaetz calling for death squads and I assert that is overextending and damaging the attempt to make clear what he said was awful on its face without needing to be cast in an even darker light, I'm both siding the issue.

So, yeah. That's how extremists operate and damage civil discourse. That's how conservatism in the US was corrupted into fascism by folks like Palin and the Fox News crw, and it's how the chaos becomes worse as the left follows along in a mirrored manner. That you are just fine drawing the tweet out into a call for death squads is the point. We aren't disagreeing on anything meaningful regarding our own actions. I imagine you think the outcome of your approach is somehow the only viable one or you wouldn't push it. Yet what you genuinely think you are advocating for isn't obvious. This, my recent sense of you being more of an anarchist than I had previously assumed.
