At any rate I still think he could have come up with something better to rhyme with road.

Goodness. There's no reason to feel stupid. In case you've never seen a horny (horned) toad, I found a picture of one for you:

They're few and far between, though they used to be more common. I haven't seen one in years and years.

Oh they are still around alright. At least in Fort Worth Texas. They broke my heart in last years Poinsettia Bowl by ending Boise State's perfect season.

I've just gotta nominate Bruce's timeless classic, Thunder Road:

The screen door slams, Mary's dress sways
Like a vision she dances across the porch as the radio plays
Roy Orbison singing for the lonely
Hey that's me and I want you only
Don't turn me home again
I just can't face myself alone again
Don't run back inside
Darling you know just what I'm here for
So you're scared and you're thinking
That maybe we ain't that young anymore
Show a little faith, there's magic in the night
You ain't a beauty, but hey you're alright
Oh and that's alright with me

You can hide `neath your covers and study your pain
Make crosses from your lovers, throw roses in the rain
Waste your summer praying in vain
For a savior to rise from these streets
Well now I'm no hero, that's understood
All the redemption I can offer, girl is beneath this dirty hood
With a chance to make it good somehow
Hey, what else can we do now?
Except roll down the window and let the wind blow back your hair
Well the nights busting open
These two lanes will take us anywhere
We got one last chance to make it real
To trade in these wings on some wheels
Climb in back, heavens waiting on down the tracks
Oh-oh come take my hand
Riding out tonight to case the promised land
Oh-oh Thunder Road, oh Thunder Road, oh Thunder Road
Lying out there like a killer in the sun
Hey I know its late, we can make it if we run
Oh Thunder Road, sit tight, take hold
Thunder Road

Well I got this guitar and I learned how to make it talk
And my cars out back if you're ready to take that long walk
From your front porch to my front seat
The doors open but the ride it ain't free
And I know you're lonely
For words that I ain't spoken
But tonight well be free
All the promises'll be broken
There were ghosts in the eyes
Of all the boys you sent away
They haunt this dusty beach road
In the skeleton frames of burned out chevrolets
They scream your name at night in the street
Your graduation gown lies in rags at their feet
And in the lonely cool before dawn
You hear their engines roaring on
But when you get to the porch they're gone on the wind, so Mary climb in
It's a town full of losers and I'm pulling out of here to win.

Also, Wilco's Far, Far Away:

Far, far away from those city lights
They might be shining on you tonight
Far, far away from you
On the dark side of the moon

I long to hold you in my arms and sway
Kiss and ride on the CTA
I need to see you tonight
And those bright lights
Oh, I know it's right
Deep in my heart
I'll know it's right

By the bed, by the light that you read by
By the time that I get home to say good night
I need to see you again
On the dark side my friend
On the dark side

and it's companion piece, Sky Blue Sky:

Oh, the band marched on in formation
The brass was phasing tunes I couldn’t place
Windows open and raining in
Maroon, yellow, blue, gold and gray

The drunks were ricocheting
The old buildings downtown empty so long ago
Windows broken and dreaming
So happy to leave what was my home

With a sky blue sky
This rotten time
Wouldn’t seem so bad to me now
Oh, I didn’t die
I should be satisfied
I survived
That's good enough for now

With a sky blue sky
This rotten time
Wouldn’t seem so bad to me now
Oh, if I didn’t die
I should be satisfied
I survived
That's good enough for now

SK, I've been listening to Wilco's Far, Far Away for the past few days. I love this live version:

By the bed, by the light that you read by...

Hmmm...that piano and pedal steel are just so lovely.

Also, for those not familiar with Wilco's music, here's Sky Blue Sky.

I still haven't gotten the new DVD. Maybe this weekend.

Probably my favorite....

#41 by Dave Matthews Band

Come and see
I swear by now I'm playing time
I against my troubles
I'm coming slow but speeding
Do you wish a dance and while I'm
in the front
the play on time is won
but the difficulty is coming here

I will go in this way
And find my own way out
I wont tell you to stay
But I'm coming to much more
Me
All at once the ghosts come back
Reeling in you now
What if they came down crushing
Remember when I used to play for
all of the loneliness that nobody
notice now
I'm begging slow I'm coming here
Only waiting I wanted to stay
I wanted to play
I wanted to love you

I'm only this far
And only tomorrow leads my way

I'm coming waltzing back and moving into your head
Please, I wouldn't pass this by
I would take any more than
What sort of man goes by
I will bring water
Why wont you ever be glad
It melts into wonder
I came in praying for you
why wont you run
in the rain and play
let the tears splash all over you

Another great one

DON'T LOOK BACK - BOSTON

don't look back
A new day is breakin
Its been too long since I felt this way
I don't mind where I get taken
The road is callin
Today is the day

I can see
It took so long to realize
Im much too strong
Not to comprimise
Now I see what I am is holding me down
Ill turn it around

I finally see the dawn arrivin
I see beyond the road Im drivin
Far away and left behind

Its a new horizon and Im awakin now
Oh I see myself in a brand new way
The sun is shinin
The clouds are breakin
canse I can't lose now, theres no game to play

I can tell
Theres no more time left to criticize
I've seen what I could not recognize
Everthing in my life was leading me on
But I can be strong

I finally see the dawn arrivin
I see beyond the road Im drivin
Far away and left behind
