This rings true to me. This is also the same kind of attitude that lends itself to crystal healing, "caner-curing yoga", and all sort of other junk medicine.

My parents got into crystals, which I thought was odd since they were TBMs. I suppose I could forgive my mother since she grew up in rural Washington state back in the 40's and 50's and limited her schooling to high school. My dad? He had a masters in Economics, so it kind of surprised me he thought there was something to crystals and healing.

It's funny how we can compartmentalize our approach to living with the need to believe in things that, on the surface, have no place in an adult world.

Exactly.

It's amazing to me how often I'm called a liberal. I chalk it up to the thoughtlessness of the people calling me that. Apparently, disagreeing with insane conspiracy theories and other forms of obvious BS, and regarding a deranged asshole as unfit to be president makes me a liberal.

I'm fiscally conservative and socially fuck-off-ish.

And many conservatives say John McCain is a liberal.

It's a relief to see you think this is funny, mostly because it's clear you have no damned clue what that word means.

An interesting choice of words. You are "relieved" because you think I don't know what the word "conservative" means? Whereas before you thought I did know what it means, and this caused you some sort of anxiety from which you have now been unburdened of? Yeah, I don't have a clue what you're trying to say.

The limitation for the modern cocnept of what it means to be left or right does not limit its application through history.
I know it takes some complex and critical thinking, but you can get there.

But hey, if you just want to view American science between Democrat and Repub then your pressupositions still look foolish.

That's likely the most honest thing you've written here.

True, I am conflating. It has to do with how those on the left treat information, whether it has to do with accusations of sexual misconduct or climate science. The left politicizes, sensationalizes, emotionalizes, etc. Even in cases where the left may arguably be "more right," it will politicize a subject to a point that it becomes clouded in misinformation and malicious intent. Like the Kavanaugh situation, it then ceases to be about the original subject, like Kavanaugh's fitness, and instead becomes a referendum on something else entirely. Global warming is a classic example. There is some legitimacy and truth to the science, hidden many layers deep, well below the fake politicized narrative. To the left, climate science is but a useful tool to advance an authoritarian agenda. The world's first "carbon billionaire" Al Gore has done more damage to the credibility of the science than anyone.

Raises an interesting question. How does the left compare to the right when it comes to science?

Not sure how you are defining "left and right" here, but if you are keeping with the ambiguity of modern day American notions of right and left, then the Right has made waaaay more innovations and and progress in the field of science than has the Left.

I would like to point out that science is not liberal or conservative, left or right. When we start thinking like that, we are on the road to Jewish physics.
