Why are you confused? This is pretty classic Doc. On most issues, he takes a pretty pragmatic position. On this one, he asks himself what kind of people would he want in America? And people that would go to such extreme effort to become Americans sounds good to him. It’s what puts him at odds with both team left and team right.

He's exactly right about these folks and their determination. They're walking the equivalent of the AT in flip flops and Crocs, with babies on their backs. Not afraid of a challenge and filled with grit, and passion for their future.

I think he's right about those folks, too. But how many of those folks are we going to take? With climate change, we should expect many more refugees from Central America. I think figuring this out includes thinking through what we should expect in the coming decades. At least some of these folks are people we've deported before -- and some of those more than once. Yes, I think there is every reason to believe that absorbing this caravan would not do us harm. But these caravans happen pretty regularly. So, what about the next one or the next one hundred?

I think it's a difficult problem, and I'm not aware of any easy answers.

I definitely agree with just about everything you have posted in this thread and I have never considered you a racist. Woman-hating misogynist maybe but definitely not racist

I chalk it up to suffering from pre-manstrual syndrome every three or four weeks. As an aside, I feel I should let Ajax18 know:

1) My White obese neighbors on the corner of my street are on assistance and let their drug addict son hoard garbage and live on their driveway in a weird homeless camp set up. The patriarch sucks up massive resources from the state with frequent hospital trip related to eating entire pies out of the tin (I wish I were making that up).

2) The young White couple next to them are employed and together, though the male is from Florida which is an obvious problem. The female is kind and from the Appalachia. Good people.

3) Ethnically Mexican couple that bought the rental next door has already started fixing up the place. The male teaches in the school district. They have a pug. That makes them good people.

4) The White woman who lives on the other side of me is a nurse. Her kids are mulattos, and are perfect as far as neighbor kids go. Her family is an old family in the neighborhood and occupy three or four other properties around our block.

5) The White people across from her are hinky as “F”. Definitely some drug activity going on, but I don't get in their business.

6) Further down the street are Whites in varying degrees of productivity and togetherness. Some retired. Some are professionals. Some are on assistance.

7) Mexican across the street, as I mentioned, is cool. We've hiked a couple of times and he's good people.

8) White people across the street, and neighbors with The Mexican, are very poor, have declared bankruptcy, and are on assistance. The male is a degenerate, but prior Army so I'm amused by him.

I'm not really sure how you can rationalize your views, but I can tell you that people are just people and even if everyone's values or ethnic tendencies don't always align, there are enough similarities, generally speaking, that any differences end up being pretty minor. I get not wanting a neighborhood to turn into a ghetto, or trailerpark, or slum, but I think I've been around enough, have lived in enough neighborhoods that ran the socioeconomic spectrum, to tell you that racial, ethnic, and economic diversity is generally a better outcome than homogeneity of any sort.

Don't fear change. Change isn't permanent, but change itself is. It's inevitable, and you can stay fluid, adapt and overcome, or you can entrench, which historically doesn't work out well for anyone.

Now we're getting somewhere. What kind of immoral person uses people as fodder to advance their politics like this? When someone gets killed, as is likely to happen if not outright part of the plan, I look forward to all of you reacting in the same way you reacted to the Bundy brothers occupying that park headquarters. I'm sure there will be no hypocrisy whatsoever and you'll unhesitatingly and without emotion side with the rule of law.

That one was handled without having to call in attack aircraft, if memory serves correct. I think we could probably do without here, as well.

Just so I am clear in understanding the caravan situation....is there a group of thousands leaving and passing through other decent countries to come to a country that is arguably the hotbed of modern capitalism and has a President that is being touted as Hitler 2.0?
What is wrong with Guatemala? Mexico?...or even some of those great socialist-esque countries....why the extra push to a country that is being portrayed as hating immigrants? as a the fountain of racism and oppression?
I am confused at why Liberals would insist on bringing people to this country.
