They have air shows here at Dobbins AFB usually once a year but they're not tax payer funded and only a fraction of the performances involve military planes. Tens of thousands of people show up and tickets usually between $10-20.

Quite possibly the dumbest president ever.
We apparently took over airports and manned the air during the revolution.
Thank you Donald Trump.
"In June of 1775, the Continental Congress created a unified Army out of the Revolutionary Forces encamped around Boston and New York, and named after the great George Washington, commander in chief. The Continental Army suffered a bitter winter of Valley Forge, found glory across the waters of the Delaware and seized victory from Cornwallis of Yorktown.
"Our Army manned the air, it rammed the ramparts, it took over the airports, it did everything it had to do, and at Fort McHenry, under the rocket’s red glare it had nothing but victory. And when dawn came, their star-spangled banner waved defiant."

Also, Fort McHenry wasn't built until 20 years after the revolutionary war, and was prominent in the war of 1812.

Hi Steelhead - good to see that you also noticed the points in my earlier post:

But here's a serious question, which I also posted earlier. I started by thinking that the airports thing was maybe a Trump ad-lib inserted into a speech which, unusually for him, was almost wholly read from a script.
However, at the end of my post I added:

But I don't think the Fort McHenry point could have been an ad-lib ... so the speech was written by someone not too well up in US history, it seems.
God help us, on reconsideration, could it have been Ivanka who wrote this stuff, 18th-century air travel included? Makes sense. Who else would Trump trust enough to write a speech for him and get him to deliver it from script?

The airports thing could also be poor reading on his part. Maybe the script said ports, but he saw it as airports, and the anachronism didn't compute in his brain.

The fact it was tied to the lyrics from The Star Spangled Banner suggests a speech writer who was too infatuated with the imagery to be concerned with the historical accuracy.

There is another explanation. This flub was a manifestation of his body attempting to preserve itself. Consider that Trump is unable to address any group of 2 or more people for a few moments without lying about something, yet this situation saw him being forced to adhere to a strict and factual script for an unusually long period of time. That circumstance triggered an emergency tweet from his subconscious, which then prompted his body’s survival response by forcing out some typically nonsensical and non factual utterances, in this case about ramming ramparts and taking over airports.

The trouble is that he said things in this order:
Our army manned the air, it rammed the ramparts, it took over the airports
The airports came after 'manned the air'. The 'air' reference is the one that needs explaining - 'airports' just seems to be an expansion of that.
He seems to be losing his reading ability. People have claimed to see early signs of dementia in other aspects of Trump's behaviour: maybe this is another one. Of course this is just speculation. One sure fact is that the White House has so far made no effort to extract Trump from the mess he has got himself into. After all, what could they do? Claim there was a fault on the teleprompter?
